Sounds like a crime of opportunity. If you live in a relatively safe neighborhood, I am gonna think your tires will be OK. But I would still invest in new locks.
I work for a PD as a dispatcher, and we see crimes like this all the time. People from other towns, will park at the end of a street, walk to the other end, and just test doors. If one opens-they will grab whatever they can. Likely ditch anything of no immediate use. Hell, there is a guy in the town I work for, who had his casette tape collection stolen from his car (he had a restored car with a tape player in it). They were never recovered-but we eventually caught the thief, months later, doing the same thing. Ths kid was a junkie, not from town, and had been doing this to surrounding towns for almost a year. Just random hits. I cannot guarantee thats what happened-but thats what it SOUNDS LIKE happened.

    Sorry to read about this.

Burglary - broken into vehicle, home, business, shed, etc without consent.

Robbery - person to person takes items from you with threats or some kind of action.

It’s possible that a “jugging” occurred. This is when you are spotted at an ATM and followed to your residence/wherever you are going. The suspect will either commit the robbery as you get out of your vehicle or break into your vehicle at some point in attempt you left the money inside the vehicle.

Another possibility is the suspect was just going through the neighborhood flipping door handles and found the vehicle unsecure. Took what he thought was worth something and left.

Wheel locks don’t prevent thefts if someone really wants the wheels. Most thieves just beat wheel locks with tools and they don’t need them.

As far as things that could help you would be some cameras and motion/flood lights. It will atleast give you a piece of mind.

At the end of the day if you are targeted and the thieves know that they are doing…they will take your stuff. They will glove up with faces covered. Park down the street and take whatever.

Sorry again! Excuses shouldn’t be made for people who steal things that others have worked hard for.

I'm gonna skip the judgy. What's done is done.

Install some motion detection spotlights on your house. The brighter the better. And then park underneath.

The home is now an AirB&B and I live on a secluded ridge on the top of a mountain in NC.
Did I leave because of the increase in population that I did not see eye to eye with, yes.

Lock vs. don’t lock depends on your neighborhood situation and the thugs who might be around. If it’s high school thugs, lock it would work most places. If it’s more serious than that and a smashing window type of neighborhood, don’t bother. Unlock everything, including glove box. Keep the love box empty and keep it open so they easily know it’s empty. That’s what I had to do anyway.

I wouldn't either. The two guys I had trying to break into my house didn't seem worried about him. Most likely would have just used a .22 and a cheap plastic bottle silencer on him after cracking the door.

They had a change of heart after seeing the business end of an AR10.

Recon is the term for having info prior to your SHTF scenario or surveillance.

In regards to your question, I have tried a lot of different systems. I have found that the new generation of Ring cameras does a good job for me, I also have a CCT setup, that runs off my backup generator should my WiFi go out.
The new ones are nice HD cameras, great night vision; but moreover they have floodlight versions. The motion detection is spot on, lights come on, alerts you and has a built in Speaker/Siren. You can listen to them and it’s very sensitive to sound or you can actually talk thru out of the camera itself.

Mainly your looking for ease of use, the quickest alert time, with the least amount of latency.

The laser trip is specific to areas that have a lot of motion. Aka my backyard with running dogs. To lessen the amount of false alarms, I rigged the trips to the inside of my fence above the dogline, but would be set off if someone jumped my fence.
The mid way trip is set for me to know specifically the place in point in which the perp has made entry.
Another one sets off one you reach my house. By this time all lights, cameras and sirens are going off. My whole property, including my landscaping lights goes off.

OP was also robbed of being allowed totally acceptable common usage of the term “rob” by the strictly legalistic types on TW ;)

I'd get a new set of tire locks, cuz you never know.

I had my house broken into and they stole the usual high value stuff, but also some odds and ends like my shaver, a clothes iron and inkjet printer cartridges.

Have you seen the prices on genuine Epson inkjet cartridges? It’s like $$89 for the full set, they sell the printers at cost and rob you on the ink. If I ever take up a life of crime that’s the first thing I’m going for ….

Can you share what brand of laser trip sensors you use? I would like to look into those for my own property.
