Trade my 09 for a 2017?

Should I trade my 09 Tacoma with the 4.0 engine for a 2017 4runner with the same engine. Not sure if my Tacoma is simply better.

 

I believe the 4.0 was replaced with the 3.5 starting 2016 and on.

 

If you can afford it, go for it. Don’t take a strangers advice. It’s not a great time to buy a new vehicle for most and you’re most likely paying covid tax on anything used. I wouldn’t trade my 4.0 for a 3rd gen unless it was absolutely necessary.

Where did you find a 2017 with a 4.0L?

 

I had an 09 and loved it. Minus the sporadic trans stutter. After it was totaled, I ended up in a 17. Overall I like the upgrades from the 09 to the 17. I've had Valley Runner tune to eliminate shifting issues. Gas milage is better too.

Ahh. It just depends on your needs. We have a 2019 4Runner with the 4.0L and a 2017 Tacoma with the 3.5L. Both have given us zero problems but we use the Tacoma far more for our lifestyles. The 4runner was purchased new at the end of 2019 with 48 miles and is up to around 15k. The Tacoma was purchased used in April 2020 with 14k miles and now has 53k.
