I’ve been a Toyota guy since I was a young child with matchbox cars and have always enjoyed the rare models. I’ve been kicking around the idea of restoring my 1986 1 Ton that I daily drive. I’ve never seen another one on the road although I’m sure they are out there. Toyota doesn’t seem to publish the number of models sold each year, so I thought I’d reach out here to get a feeling for how rare the truck is and thoughts on restoring it. From what I’ve seen over the years I believe the truck is rare. It is a 1986 with the following options. 1 Ton axel and factory 7’ bed. This is not a 1 Ton cab chassis like a motor home or uhaul (I own a ‘87 dual rear wheel 1 Ton cab chassis also) . This is a single rear wheel 1 Ton with factory radio, digital clock, A/C, wing windows, 5 speed, power steering, and 22RE EFI. It lacks power doors and windows but I believe in ‘86 those were only available in the 4Runner. If you know of any options it’s lacking let me know If anyone has any original publications on the ‘86 1 Ton I’d love to see them. So what are your thoughts fellas ? Thanks for the input.

I’ve seen the old TV ads on YouTube of this model but in the real world I don’t know how popular they were or how many may still exist. Somebody on here has to have one also :)

it has 1 ton running gear. The truck is rated to haul a little over a ton of payload. It has a different axle different gearing and a different brake set up

I bought my 86 pickup new, at that time I didn’t even know a 1 ton was an option. I really just remember the 4 wheel drives were $3,000 more so I stayed with the 2wd
