Your truck wasn't robbed. It was burglarized.

That only applies if you unlock the car with the key fob but don't open door. The system will re-lock the car after 60 seconds if no door is opened after pressing unlock.

"Time elapsed before auto- matic door lock function is activated if door is not opened after being unlocked"

A thief is a thief is a thief. They took what wasn’t theirs. How about this, way before I got into trucks back in 1978, my wife went into labor with our first child, we lived in an apartment, went to get the car. Some pos stole it. It was locked and under a street light. How’s that for a story. The police shook their heads in disbelief. Baby was born safe, healthy and happy

And this is the reason I lock stuff up, this happened to a family member. Vandalism sometimes seems more like a beat down.

There's a problem with our society today.

It's easier to steal than to work.
It's your fault you were burglarized.
It's your fault you were raped.
The accused has more rights in court than the victim.
    Etc, etc, etc, ........

Home security is a game of layers. Outside knowledge of valuables, neighborhood layout (can work for or against you), lights and cameras outside, lock doors, alarm systems, safes etc. The outer rings are the most easily breached. Valuables should be distributed accordingly. One of the most important factors in my mind is putting them on a clock. If you have cameras that send you a notification, even if you can't identify them, you know they are there and can react accordingly. Even if you take it all seriously, bad things can still happen. But if I were a criminal looking for random opportunities, I'm gonna pass on the house with the lights and cameras and go for an easier target.

It takes some balls or stupidity to be in petty crime these days with the proliferation of home security cameras. We have had 1 or 2 theft events in my town every year and for the last few years every single one has been caught on camera and the perp/perps have been arrested.

In some areas there is little to no prosecution for property crime. Some places won't even roll law enforcement when property crime is taking place real time.
In some areas the property owners are more at risk from the not-obvious (obvious risk: harm from prowler, loss of material items, etc) when trying to protect goods and can face prosecution

SOME thieves know this! It's stupid I know. Frustrating for many.

Are you saying that a person should let them take it and enjoy the loss. My state has ''castle'' laws, so this is not the case everywhere. Is that saying trespassing is okay in some places.

Not saying this at all. Need to tread carefully on this subject matter. Just saying the reality in some places.

No matter what, 14 year old kid, stealing stuff at the end of your driveway, blast the kid dead - your life is ruined. Castle laws would not go really far. Not threatened, not in your home.

Confront and stop, up to you 100%, call and wait? A lot of places, no authorities are going to roll. Sounds like where you live they would. Same here. How long? 10 minutes?

Pablo 8 , the 14yr old I get, not being threatened I get, your life has to be in eminent danger for use of deadly force. But certain B&E's are not committed by teens that said it can't be ignored.

Absolutely. There are large sections of the country that have adopted the belief that you are wrong for having worked for what you own and you are a criminal if you protect yourself, your family or your possessions. A worthless pile of shit that decides it's easier to steal your shit than work is a protected species.

Cameras are cheap. I put 2 up to keep an eye on the taco and the wife's suv. $30 a camera gives me video of any yahoo messing with my vehicle. Night vision might not reveal a suspect, but will show me what direction they approached from, what surfaces they touched, a clothing description and which way they left. At least it's something to go on.

Living in a small community where it's common knowledge that you have a Model 99 Barrett tends to keep shit stains at bay

I guess times are changing and not for the better. To bad if they were caught stealing they didn't lose benefits and a hand, instead of encouragement to continue those behaviors.

My only piece of advice, get on friendly terms with your neighbors. Make friends with all the dog walkers in your neighborhood. Those people know everything which goes on!
