Absolutely unbelievable. I'm always careful where I park, choosing to park towards the back of the lot and right next to a curb, if possible. I was parked at the airport for a few days, parked on a curb, 3 freaking feet away from the adjacent spot, and I return to find this...

Any ideas how to fix this up? Recommended brands of touch-up paint? At it's deepest it appears to be all the way through the paint down to metal.

OEM toyota touch up paint. I had someone scratch my truck first week of owning it at the grocery store parking lot. After it cured lightly sanded with fine grit automotive sand paper then buffed it. It's only noticeable if you look at it really closely.

To be honest, with a scratch that long, I would just buff it out as much as possible and and use no touchup paint. Otherwise the touchup paint will stand out more that the scratch ever will.

If you have experience with car detailing, you can of course use touchup paint and than use an abrasive compound to level/blend it with the rest of the paint. But you might absolutely ruin the clear coat around if you dont know what you are doing.

Also I've read trhat some touchup paints don't exactly match the color of the original, for whatever reason.

Car paints are a thin layer of paint with a thick layer of clear coat on top. With a Touchup paint, you just add a large layer of paint and no clear coat. It would be like fixing a paint defect on your wall with colored playdough. Color might match perfectly, but the texture will never match (i.e. it will not be level) and it will stand out.

You can blend in touchup paint and level it, but that requires experience.

Like you, I park far-far-far away from any other cars, prefer a curb and get as close to it as possible.
At times I'll even double park in areas where there are no cars. I don't give a shit.

Ever notice this..?... if you park your car/truck way far away where no other cars are, someone pulls up RIGHT-BESIDE-YOU...
1,000 open spots and they park right next to you. These people don't realize how lucky they are that I'm not built for prison life.

My wife has to park in a garage, with notorious teeny-tiny spaces. Came home the other day and someone had obviously pulled
into her drivers side door. Put about a 18 inch mark on it, ( white )... produced a very slight dent in the lower right panel. It
wasn't scratched but their white-azz-paint had rubbed onto her paint. Took awhile got it cleaned up, not 100% but a lot better.

Wash it, buff it, and per other post as last resort get the OEM touch up paint. Shake it well and use just a teeny tiny amount. I put
a small scratch on my new white truck and you can hardly find the spot. I would NOT try to use any clearcoat. Tried that in another
small spot and it really stood out. So yea if you go the touch-up route go over it very very lightly and then another very very light
coat if you think you need it.
