You forgot to include all the 3rd gen drivers parked on the side of the road so they can run their ac without it dripping on the frame. They dont drive and run the AC because they realized the drain hose mod they did does nothing when the truck is moving, and water still sprays onto the frame. Perhaps a condensate catch can mod will be popular next….

Itchy is not a troll. He just didn't like his truck. There are a lot of people around here who are ex-Tacoma owners and a lot of them were less than enamored with the third gen.

I don't have a problem with him posting his opinion about it.

It's not reliability issue, it's a drivability issue and Toyota did a less than perfect job on it. My 2019 was less than stellar until the last shift programming TSB.

My biggest gripe is that the fucking thing smoked when wheeling on an incline. The catch can "fix" delays the smoking, but does not eliminate it. I think it's borderline unforgivable to sell a 4x4 off-road marketed truck that cannot idle on a steep incline.

I also thinks it sucks that those of us who wheel these have to deal with a locker that can only be used in 4lo, and a transfer case that is prone to shitting actuators if it gets a bit wet. I've put a lot of work into my truck and I love it, but I will be the first to admit that Toyota could have done better.

My daughter just bought a used Xterra proX with less than 35K miles on it. Different vehicle but same drivetrain - no? Previous owner had done some well though out mods.

Anyway, she was up from Flagstaff last weekend and we tossed that thing around...what a little beast!

Yeah same drivetrain, could even get them in the 6spd. Been super pleased with mine.

only real gotcha can be the radiator, there were QC issues on them for a while. I haven’t even had the engine cover off mine since I did spark plugs 60000 mi ago.

Edit: you’ll get used to the aircraft carrier class turning radius eventually :)

Mid size trucks all seem to be compromised on profitability/margin. The volume isn’t high enough to benefit from the technology investments that you see in the f150, ram, etc, especially for Toyota being a market laggard in this area (tech). I think all of the mid size trucks are like this, the exception maybe being the gladiator which will likely have a host of other issues. Now that I’ve shoveled cubic dollars into it I love it and it would be hard for me to part with it. Sometimes I feel like dropping it off to Toyota and saying “I’ve fixed your truck - take notes”. Lol. Not everyone has the time, funds, or desire to right the wrongs that annoy them. I had a loaner for 3 months prior to making a buying decision so went in consciously knowing what I wanted to improve, but most people don’t want a project when they drive a new car off the lot. Agree with the sentiment that if you aren’t happy with it and don’t feel like you want to navigate the issues, sell it. Market is high and you’ll benefit.

I bottle my AC condensate drippings and sell them as “overland reverse-osmosis hydration”. Influencers are lining up to rep the brand.

    Below is not an opinion:

"I just love getting a rise out of people that have built their self worth around the turd gen."

That is called being a fucking douchebag. But, like him, you are probably a douchebag too, so you dont know the fucking difference.

imagine how much of a loser you have to be to frequent a forum for a car you dont even own. yall are probably just bunch of fat ass middle aged man-children.

What Itchy wants is an audience. Don't give it to him. He's not worth getting pissed over. I put him on ignore, now I don't see his posts any more. Problem solved.

I appreciate the thoughtful responses. I'm a bit taken back by the "passion" of some of the others.

Honestly I'm still on the fence about the truck. I like a lot about it. But there are some things that are real head scratchers. The vibrating at around 40 mph is my big issue right now. I'm going to give it a few more days and see where my head is on it before I make any major decisions.

I bought a 2006 Xterra Off Road new, which was eventually renamed the Pro-4X with 6MT. I kept it for 305,000 miles and only replaced the brakes a few times and the plugs once. Original cam chain, clutch etc. But it was going to need front end work, so I sold it and bought my DCSB OR 6MT Tacoma. With the Xterra discontinued, I would have bought a Frontier, but they discontinued the 6MT, so here I am. Not a bad truck, but the Xterra was geared better and was peppier.
