Where are you able to get them if you live in California? Thought about taking the drive to Vegas to get one shipped to a family members but not sure.

From what I've read all through this forum the consensus is that all they do is make noise and lose hp.

Injen evolution claims to make Dyno proven results but I'm wary on that.

Any particular reason it's only listed as fitting up to 2019? Is it just because there is no CARB certification beyond the 2019 model year?

Very possible. You can look up and see the EO. The 2nd gen only fits up to 2011 due to SAI but the EO states its approved up to 2015. Wouldn’t be surprised if the same was for the third gen. Either way you have 8 years until it matters firm purchase.

Actually I live in FL so it will never matter to me at all :) I was just concerned about it fitting in my 2021 sport.

I think it didn't used to be CARB approved or was in the process of getting certified, which is why it couldn't be ordered from the factory. You still can't order it when building a Tacoma on Toyota's website for whatever reason. However, you can order it from almost anywhere online now and have it shipped to you or purchase it directly from any Toyota dealer.

You might try adding an aftermarket air filter like K&N, AEM, or even the TRD filter and the intake flow accelerator piece first. The performance gains will be about the same and you'll save some cash for other mods.

Here's a link with the part numbers for the TRD intake flow accelerator (PTR03-35160-AE) and TRD air filter (PTR03-34140).

I'm using the K&N drop in filter with the stock intake. Very minor performance and gas mileage increase if any and the filter needs to be cleaned quite frequently living in dusty Arizona. I've been thinking about going back to the stock paper filter honestly.

Most of not all the TrD parts are all after add on. You can order and the dealer installs when they get it but are not installed at the factory. Could be the newer ones aren’t approved or fitted. But unless the engine changed to should fit. It uses the same lower air box. Different lid. You could order just the lid if you wanted the look of it. The tube doesn’t add much and it’s fragile.

Take a look at the size of the stock air filter. It's humongous. You could plant an acre of barley on that thing and still have room to breathe.

Airflow is not exactly an issue with these trucks.

I think the consensus on this forum after a billion cold air intake threads is that they are not worth it on the 3rd gen taco.
Or at the very least I have never read a single thread with significant quantified improvements in performance. There are also numerous YouTube videos and other sources that discuss the topic not specific to the Tacoma with very “it depends” sort of conclusions.

I’ve lately been more curious about why this question comes up so often.

It's a persistent relic from the days of carburators and when valve timing was set by putting your ear to the handle of a screwdriver. And from the depths of Pep Boys/Western Auto hell, through every sucker that used to buy a bottle of mystery goo absolutely guaranteed to squeeze out an extra 5 HP from their iron duke, this myth has stayed alive over the years.

Much like how every kid is still nervous whenever they mix pop rocks and coca cola, to this day.

It's even worse in the muscle car forums.
