Hi everyone. I'm definitely sold on getting the OV Tune for my 21 SR5. Is it worth it to spend the extra to get all the equipment for myself or just pay someone to do it for me? I don't think I'd get into the deep end of tuning, but I wasn't sure if this was something that would need more than one transaction and be worth it in the end. Thanks.

Depends on you. If you're a tinkerer, do it yourself. If not, have someone else do it and save some bux.

Is there ever a time where you'll have to "reload" the tune? Like if the battery ever dies will it have to be done again? I'm new to tuning.

Only if a TSB gets applied to update the ECU version

No, you'd only need to reload if you got a new ECU. Once its done its done. Check out https://kdmaxtuning.com and find the closest Tuner to you! Once its done you'll have the support of the group including Kreg and Dave!

Nope. It's written into the ECU so it should be there permanently until you want to change it. As far as I know anyway. @tonered is a tuning guru so he could confirm or tell me I don't know shit

it could happen. or some like to flash different versions or back to stock for the dealer (which is not necessary but some still do). if you have vF Tuner to flash yourself, the two things to know are that you'll have to purchase the tune file from the tuner for additional money, and that basically all their tunes are locked, so you cannot tweak/edit them.

It should be good for life.

That said, I have chatted with a couple folks who said that the tune seemed to go back to Stock after using radar cruise on 2018+ ATs. At this time, the radar cruise maps are still the Stock maps, but those two folks said that the tune got wrecked overall. A reflash did fix them up.

What is radar cruise? Is that the adaptive CC?

Yes. The current 2.0 Base tunes do not have vF maps when using it. But, selecting standard / non-radar cruise has the vF shift maps. That is supposed to be fixed with vF 2.0 Ultimate.

Good point and highlights the importance of negotiating with the folks offering flash services.

For my folks, I do not charge for reflashes or mods as long as we can keep it easy and convenient for everyone.

I had no idea this was a thing. My tune still seems to have something over the stock tune, but I tested the adaptive cruise on a trip and my mpg went down by at least 1 since then. I will have to reflash and see if there is any change

It is not something that is commonly noted, so it might have been a truly rare event. The two folks noted that other aspects of the tune seemed to have changed, which sounds odd. I believe them though.

With the number of folks that have the tune and enjoy the adaptive cruise feature, we would be hearing more about it if it was more prevalent.

Which tune (OV Tune or KDMax) version would you all recommend for me? I have 265/75/16s with a 3/2 Rough Country lift. I'm ok with a higher octane gas as well. I do mostly on-road driving but will go on mild trails for hunting and overland camping.

Ovtune is better than stock, but doesn't come close to KDMAX. Plus paparee answers his emails if you have a question
