With stock wheels I don't think you will safely fit any 275 tires.

With those wheels you should be good at all but a very narrow range of steering angle and only near full stuff. I've done 275/70/17 tires with those wheels one a 2nd and now a 3rd gen. The 2nd gen had the same lift, too. Every once in a while wheelin' I'll get just a light rub that I can hear, never feel it. Of the dozen of trips and hundreds of stump filled forest roads/trail miles I think it happened 3 or 4 times. Seems like it's always in reverse, too.

 

With a 2” lift and running the 17x7 Semas with that +4 offset, I would almost bet you could get away with a 285. Especially since you say you don’t really offroad and won’t be stuffing tires. Can find lighter weight options in 285 than 275 which is nice also.

 

Nokian makes a 275 c load AT tire that's 44lbs in that size. @btrumpatori might be looking for P rated tires, though.

 

That’s about your only choice if you want to be below 55lbs, unfortunately.

 

You also have the Cooper ST Maxx and (surprisingly) the goodyear MTR to choose from, as well as the Mickey Thomson Deegan AT. Maybe not what you are looking for, but options nonetheless.

The khumo at 51 are c load and 46 lbs , I saw them on a Tacoma the other day and it looked real good . Don’t know why more people don’t use them . In Australia, they are like the bfg’s .

I haven’t had a bunch of different tires. And I don’t “air down and go rock crawling.” Mine are daily drivers that I want to look good and be capable for all weather, regular light off-reading. I have had the TRD Sport stockers (crap), TRD Pro stockers (huge improvement), BFG KO2’s (best tires I’ve ever had, but heavy and pricey), Nitto Terra Graplers (probably a best choice for my use, more economical at purchase and better mpg’s). Love the look of Coopers, but never had them. BFG’s lasted 50K, easy. Nitto’s are currently at 30K and won’t need changing until at least 40K, probably more.

Not sure if this helps much due to a small sample size. Also, I haven’t done any lifts or spacers. Stuck with recommended sizes. Never had any rubbing. I live in Texas, so deep snow is not really an issue But that’s my two cents.

 

I would have a tire shop test fit a 285. Can get the Ridge Grappler 285 SL at 49lbs! I’m sure the Terra Grappler is just as light if not lighter, just not quite as aggressive looking.

 

Many thanks. So I guess the best course is to get the lift, then test fit 285s to decide whether or not they’ll fit. If so, maybe go Grappler, if not, then consider other options.

New to this forum and to Tacoma world. Quick question…im getting KO2 275/70R17 with a 17x8 +5 offset on my Tacoma this weekend. Any idea if I should be worried about major rubbing? Currently on stock suspension.

 

That positive offset is going to push you in closer to your UCAs.

 

Nitto actually does make a 275/70R17 Ridge Grappler... they just aren't making them right now and don't have plans to.
They emailed just the other day about this.

You could also consider the Cooper Discoverer A/T3 LT... only 52 lbs.

Got tires and wheels mounted today! Couldn’t be happier. 275/70R17 Bf Goodrich KO2 E load. Ride is not as rough as everyone says. Slight difference in ride quality after 60mph.
Wheels: 17x8 +5 offset. No rubbing at all on 2021 trd sport 4x4. Tires line up with fenders, perfect. 2” front leveling kit soon.

No rubbing! Keep in mind this is my daily, so not doing any crazy driving. And mpg is 17mpg around town. Haven’t driven on too much highway yet. Going on a trip this weekend, will update. Running 34psi on all four.

 

Are those knockoff TRD rims? All the genuine ones are 7" wide. If so, where can I get some
