To turn us on? We’ll, I am. Im probably won’t getting another Tacoma anytime soon b/c I just got one a few month ago. So, by the time I need to get another truck, I hope they have one with diesel.

It seems to me outside of the need of a diesel for towing capacity, why would anyone desire it for anything else? The high cost of ownership, 20 years now of diesel being .20-.30 higher than 87 and the premium sticker price seem to far outweigh any fuel savings.

Longevity had long gone out the window with all the emissions crap(EGR, DEF etc.) tied to EPA mandates.

I agree, but people want what they can't have, even if it's not in their own best interest. I lucked out, in my younger days, I thought I wanted a diesel truck, and got a new job with one included. Never wanted one since, and that was pre DEF days!

I agree. My DD is an F-550 with a Diesel. Great engine for a rig which weighs ~17K LBS, regularly runs for 8-12 hours a day and idles (or fast-ildles when I'm using the PTO) for long periods of time. That same type of engine would be a lousy choice (IMO) for the way I use my Taco.

    Check build thread!
It makes a lot of sense for high kilometer drivers here in Canada, gas is 1.41 a l here and diesel is 1.22 a l. Plus, with my dad's diesel 1500 getting double the gas mileage of my tacoma (6.8l/100km to 12l/100km for the taco) a diesel in a Tacoma would be a instantaneous buy for me. Couple that was the amazing low end torque, cool whoosh noises and slightly better towing and I'm sold.

Don't think I'd ever buy a diesel again. To much emissions crap now, and I'm pretty sure its a felony to install a delete if you are even able to find one.

If I could get a basic turbo D-4D 4-cylinder from 10 or 15 years ago -- yes, please.

But honestly I would rather have the 2.4T from the new NX 350. Turn it longitudinally à la the GS200 and I would prefer it to the 3.5 V6 by a long shot. 275 hp and 317 lb-ft (haven't seen @rpm specs but I'm sure it's torquey down low).

Because Toyota is one of the largest automobile manufacturers and they sell plenty of Diesel engines in other countries.

    There won’t be a Tacoma diesel ever…

this right here, diesel is usually cheaper in Canada than gas. My 2002 golf gets 6.6L/100km with my foot trying to go through the firewall all the time with fuel and boost turned up, 30 psi and a constant stream of soot underload below 2k rpm. Vs babying my Tacoma and getting 15.5L/100km.

    yeah I’d take a diesel.

We (Sales staff here at Lexus) are Very excited for that new NX set up. I especially dig their NX450h+ and would kill for that on a Tacoma. Basically with the plus model you can go up to 36 miles solely on Electric before the gas engine would need to kick on.

Yeah, I'm excited to see, essentially, Toyota's versions of the powertrains in the Wrangler (4-cyl turbo, PHEV). I'd planned to keep my '21 forever but a PHEV Tacoma could get me to potentially do some questionable financial moves - unless the price starts with a 5, then I'll probably stick with my SR, haha.

I have to admit, though, if I hadn't just got my offroad, I would have got the special edition gx we just got wind of.
