Here is the link to the the Mastercool 5831 model we need for our trucks: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0015KH93K?ie=UTF8 The one mentioned, the
As it is bubbling dye from the low side presta valve, I am preparing to accomplish this on my '05 4.0. However, before purchasing the MASTERCOOL 81490 mentioned ^^^, when reading the reviews I found the following which states it is the incorrect version:
"The low-side valve on my 2006 Toyota 4Runner was leaking so I thought I would tackle the job myself. I’m no AC guy, so I didn’t know a JRA valve from a 8mm standard valve from a hole in the ground. I wasn’t sure what my vehicle had, so I just bought an assortment of valves and this tool and hoped for the best.
I don’t even need to tell you the punch line, do I? Come to find out, my low-side valve is a JRA valve (which I think is also called a high-flow Schrader valve) which is too big to fit through this tool. I read other reviews that say the Mastercool 5831 model does work with JRA valves (it’s $30 more) so I ordered that (thank you Amazon same-day delivery!) and it worked like a champ. Basically, the 81490 kit will work for the “skinny” valve cores, but not the “fat” valve cores.
I’m not going to fault the tool because of my ignorance on the subject of car AC repair. It’s well built and I’m sure would have no problems installing valves for which it was designed. I did not use the tool, but it’s all metal construction and built just as well as the Model 58531 which worked great.
Unsure what you have and don’t want to make the same mistake I did? I guess you could just buy the 5831 kit and know that it handles all types of valves. If you don’t want to spend any more money than you need to, make sure you buy the right tool for your type of valve: I found that polarbearinc.com/Webstore/index.cfm?fuseaction=category.display&category_ID=80 has pretty good descriptions of the various types of valve cores that are out there."
