FWIW I currently have a Rocky Mounts Split Rail 2 bike and just purchased a 1up rack to replace it.

I leave it on all the time and the Rocky Mounts is pretty beat up after about 4 years of heavy use. The holding arms have a lot of play (relative to when they were new) and the plastic is pretty faded/becoming brittle?

The other user on here who just bought it (name escapes me but thank you) basically sold me on it with the picture of the tailgate and rack down without an extender. Can't wait to get the 1up!

In my case, I put the tire in without sealant, just in case I had a problem and wanted to avoid sealant spraying around. It popped up when I put air on it and seated just fine. I put in the valve core, aired it up again and waited a few minutes. All good. Then I popped the bead on one side, for just an inch or two, so I could pull it over the rim, and pour in the Stan’s. I don’t like squirting it in the valve stem and this method has always worked fine for me. But for some reason the whole tire collapsed down into the “well” and when I put it back on and aired up, it wouldn’t pop out enough to hold enough air to inflate and seat. In fact as I tried to push it into shape it just got worse. So the trick is to work sidewall out toward the rim, and push the bead up onto the ledge just inside the lip of the rim, and hold it there as you work around the tire. About halfway around it got hard to continue, as the video predicted, so I flipped the rim around and worked the opposite 180° of the tire. Then very carefully, so as not to push the tire off the ledge and back into the well, I connected my inflator. Easier to do than describe, but the video is pretty clear from around the 4 minute to 5:15 minute points in the video.

Any reason why you don't fill the tire via the valve core? Having an injector is key. I used this puppy - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07N7ZTH5Q?ie=UTF8

I went through this yesterday and it works flawlessly every time. Beads always seat and I don't get Stans juice everywhere (Stans juice, not Stan's juice )

I bought 2 of those portable Stan's things years ago, I think they're 2 oz. I've been refilling them from a bigger Stan's bottle since. It's nice to keep one in my fanny and in my bike tool bag without lugging bottles of fluid everywhere

I do what @mrtonyd mentions. Once I inflate the tire, deflate and inflate again ensuring that the “circle line” on the tire is above the rim and is holding air, I’ll deflate one last time, use the 2oz refill bottle to fill via the stem. The 2oz bottle allows you to cut the tip just a bit, enough to fit in the stem easily and almost seal.

Yeah, I should probably fill through the stem. Just an old guy stuck in my ways, which worked fine until this week. If I start doing so, I’d just cut the tip off a small Stan’s bottle (filled from a big jug) and squirt it in. I can’t see having a second syringe to clean out … plus I might be tempted to use it for brake bleeding which might not be a good idea. Though it might cure a leaky brake line olive :)

If it helps confirm you made a good purchase... my 1up rack has been through 4 years of heavy use and is still going strong. It's a bit squeaky (wd40 should fix that) and has a little bit of vertical play. It's otherwise in fantastic condition with no signs of needing replacement.

    Dang, I’m in a dilemma.

I was offered $4300+150(shipping) for the 2021 Santa Cruz 5010 CR. I mentioned to fiancé, I bought it for her, and she says she likes the bike and enjoys riding, but hasn’t ridden in a long time, granted planning a wedding and vet school applications are time consuming.

Do I sell now and maybe buy a cheaper bike later or maybe an equal bike, or keep and just let it sit. Hmmmm. I paid 4175 for bike delivered new.

As of now I’ll only be out like $300 buying helmet and shoes for her, which can be kept forever so.

You always run the risk of replacing it with something she does not like. With it being a new model/frame year, I would say you are insulated from any high depreciation over the next couple of years.

My thoughts, if it is not getting used and there are no solid plans to get back on it regularly, let someone else enjoy it until the time comes. Life has a way of messing with priorities.

See I thought this as well, I've got at least 2-3 more months before depreciation kicks in when selling a 2021 in 2022.
The new generation frame does keep its long term from dropping a lot maybe $1000 depreciation in 2 years..

I agree with this, I don't have plans to buy anything, or anything I need to use the money for. It's just a really good deal for me to take.
I had been saying I'd buy that WAO Arrival, but can't bring myself to do it.

Anyone else went through this with a significant other

Yep I'm going through it right now...My wife enjoys a casual stroll and she needs a new bike badly. I know it won't be used that much so I am struggling to decide how much money I want to spend on it. I am kinda looking at is as a second bike for me because she can ride a medium frame as long as it has a low standover. I have a newer Transition Scout so I may get something a little rowdier. I'm thinking either the Sentinel or getting a Guerilla Gravity frame.

Pretty cool setup. That 1up quality is probably unbeatable, but I've been considering this one from Amazon for just $30:

I still have my wife's 1995 Trek Singletrack 930 with less than 5 miles on it. Never was her thing I guess.

    Sell it.

You bought a new/novice rider an upper tier bike. Of course she likes it. But she’s still a new/novice rider that likely won’t be able to tell much of a difference if/when y’all get her a lower tier replacement down the line.

I sold my wife’s bike when she got pregnant with our first kid. It wasn’t a 5010…but she wasn’t riding much as it was and she knew she wouldn’t again for a while. Fast forward a few years and we’ve gotten her another, lower spec bike. She’s grinning ear to ear each time we go out with the kids.

Point is, ask for her input, but it definitely sounds like selling is the right move. Especially with the offer you have and the market being what it is currently.

I have two bikes for my wife, her pretty nice Spec Allez road bike, and then a basic Raleigh MTB (nothing special). These are 10+ years old, and have been moved to the shed to make room in the garage…….read as, I needed more room for my bikes! Hahahah

She’s mentioned to me a few times to sell them, but I don’t think I can really get anything for them. Maybe the road bike….the MTB, maybe, but seems Craigslist and Facebook Marketplace are flooded with bikes. Not sure if they could be had for a decent price.

As for your dilemma - that’s a nice bike to be sitting. Hard to make the decision, but if you sell, just take note of geometry and find something very comparable to it.

I wish I was that lucky, 5'10"-5'11" here and she's like 5'4". I can ride a medium fairly comfy for what I know of biking with the 450-460 reach however, I've never been on a large bike so no idea if I'd be more/less comfy. She has to have a small, a small with 27.5 is probably best at that height.

I spent the money like, hey I bought you this bike, please let me off the hook for all gifts in the foreseeable future. So it made me have less headache searching for gifts, etc... clever I know.

I do have intention of buying another for her, just not sure when.

lol, well at least I've got you beat on miles. Even I don't bike much unfortunately. Maybe 20-30 miles a week.

It's all I've got time for.

Yeah, I'm leaning this way too. I guess I just feel bad with it being a gift. I do think it's a perfect bike even for a beginner. Lowest tier stuff from top companies, so still good stuff all things considered for what majority of people are on.

My biggest keepsake on the bike is, brand being Santa Cruz and warranty, the colorway and overall aesthetics, 27.5 because who even knows if she could touch without taking an upper tube to the taint every time she steps off the bike if it was 29.

I'm thinking sell with plans of buying a bike in the future. Maybe a cheap hardtail 1x for now and later getting something more capable.

I know she's overbiked 100%, but when trying to get someone into biking the ride being comfortable probably outweighs any efficiency and peppiness.
