That's human nature. Things like armour requires a lot of R&D and that's time that if you don't charge for it, you lose. People see steel and think there's no way it should cost that much.

That's the same with every business. Mobtown hasn't adapted to the supply chain fluctuations in the past couple of years as well as competitors like Victory 4x4 and C4 Fab.

The other factor is the emergence of Chinesium armor from DV8, Hooke Road, 4WP Factory, etc. We used to complain Toyota parts cost a lot more than Jeep parts. This is how they reach parity.

FWIW I won't stress too much about crush washer reuse. I had probably 20 oil changes on a crush washer on my element, never a leak. Only got changed because the dealer happened to give one.

The 3rd gens use a fiber washer (iirc comes with the filter). I would be more concerned about reuse of this as it may not be mechanically sound after it gets saturated.

Sorry I'm confused...are you talking about a gasket/washer for the oil filter cartridge?

I can’t comment on an element washer because I don’t have one however oil drain pan crush washer replacement is cheap insurance but I am certain they can be reused as long as they’re not damaged or gouged.

edit>>I use this oil filter on my 2.7 L 4-banger because it fits but the actual stock one is a little bit shorter but I used to buy them by the case of 10 because this is also the stock filter for the 4.7 L V-8 when I had my Tundra and I was covered for both trucks!

That never happens to me!! I never get that lucky. If I did I'd have to run right out and get a lottery ticket!!
I'm with ya on the pan plug washer. I have converted my PITA cartridge style filters to spin on... https://baxterperformanceusa.com/product/ts-501-bk-cartridge-to-spin-on-adapter-universal/

Yea this is exactly what I put in mine.

These cheaper crush washers should be replaced each oil change. As they have plastic or something on each side, that separates when you pull the plug out.

If you are using the nicer Dorman copper crush washer that @3JOH22A mentioned. They last much longer.

could bypass all of the crush washer stuff with a ball valve
    :stirthepot:

    t-100fmn.jpg
Just crank that sucker down and don't need to worry about the crush washer leaking if the valve leaks instead!
Jokes aside, i replace the crush washer every 2-3 changes since i forget to replace them every 2-3 changes.

I still dont understand putting that a valve on there. Tons of guys have done it.

Is it that hard to undo a bolt?

It would be amazing to be out in the bush, and a stick rams up in there and pushes the arm on the valve.

@honkonbobo had a stick get up and diddle the back of his transfer case out on VMUTS. Unplugged shit so he could not engage / disengage 4wd.

    It can happen. :notsure:
