Broke college kid here trying to remove my hub assembly and bring it to a machine shop to repack the wheel bearing. My friend just passed and left me his 2005 5 speed manual 4cyl RWD (5 lug). I’m an engineer but new to fixing trucks so please excuse my lack of knowledge. All of the videos and info I can find on removing the hub assembly are for 6 lug and the setup looks different than mine. I’ve got pictures of how far i’ve gotten and I don’t know what the next step is. Can someone please help me or point me in the right direction?6F4DA0B9-87BC-4A71-A0C4-BE6DD37747FE.jpgF85EACCA-2399-4385-A61E-1172BE6584ED.jpg

Pretty sure you need to remove the whole spindle and have the old ones pressed off, and new ones pressed in.

@Dm93 likely knows, seems like someone asked this not too longs ago?
    I can’t find the post?

Yes unfortunately the 5 lugs have a press in bearing, you have to remove the entire knuckle and press it out and the new one back in.

@devkurf thanks for finding that but it seems that is for a different model, I don’t have the big nut in the center of the Hub as stated in step 2.

Just to clarify, nobody (including a machine shop) can repack the wheel bearings on a Tacoma. When they go south, you need to replace them. A machine shop can press the old bearing off and press a new one on though.

you can check brake pads and rotors since they are off. but best practice is to do both sides.

Tie rod ends and ball joints. (Both have to be disconnected anyways)

My recommendation is to replace both front bearings, not just one. The other side will likely fail soon and you don't want to go through this process again.

I work in an automotive shop and have access to Mitchell service info.
If you do a bit of poking around you can find links to the 05-06 FSM
