Picking up my first 3rd gen this weekend (fingers crossed)! Is there anything specific I should be looking for? It's a 2016 double cab shortbed. I'm excited! Any advice would be great!

Depending on location, rust on the frame? Oil by the power steering pump, when looking from underneath?

I like to kick the tires to make sure it’s a solid truck.

Afaik, it's an every year thing. I thought the part numbers were the same with the replaced units.

Drive it several miles and see what you think, in town, highway, as much as you can. Look in, under, and all the places you can.

Sit in silence with it for a while, let it speak to you like Nicolas Cage

All kidding aside lol…. I open the oil cap and smell it. Tell tell signs of people not taking care of their engines is the smell of strong burnt oil. Look for frame damages. Look for repainted panels. If you take a picture of the vehicle at an angle you, the photos are at times easier to spot repainted panels.
Not all vehicle accidents are reported to carfax.

Have someone check the timing chain cover for a leak . It can be a $4000.00 repair .

Listen for any noises now so we don't have to listen to them later.
    And welcome to the asylum.

If it's a 4WD, you might want to make sure 4WD works.

I was recommend to stay away from the 2016's....too many issues. Almost bought a 2019 left over, but the dealer convinced me to get a 2020. Finally did. Glad i waited.

Check the CarFax but don't let that be the deciding factor if that looks good.
Gonna be a lot of flooded vehicles for sale too. Buyer beware.

    Private sale or a dealer?
If dealer, have them check and update ECU, TCU.
