What's up everybody. My name is Pete. I own a 2004 Toyota Tacoma Pre-Runner SR 5. I am a new member and have a question for anybody that can give me an answer to my question. My check engine light keeps coming on. I have already replaced the gas cap among other things. Took it to a mechanic who told me the problem was my gas filler tube. Got it replaced only to have light back on. Mechanic then told me it was my vapor lock canister. ordered it and same mechanic replaced it. My check engine light is back on again. All and all I have spent close to $600.00 to replace these two parts. Has anybody had this check engine light problem? If so How did it get fixed. I need to fix this problem before my next State Inspection in a couple of months. Your help with this matter will be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!

What is the code number (s) you currently present ?
    Sounds like P0442 or P0446
Never heard of a vapor lock cannister.
The EVAP system has a Charcoal Cannister.
    Smoke tests will reveal leaks.

I believe the code I got is PO442. It reads that I have a small leak. Like I wrote on my introduction I have already replaced the gas cap twice. I purchased the second gas cap at a Toyota dealer just so I wouldn't go wrong on the cap. I also replaced two vacuum hoses. The check engine light was still on after I replaced these parts. I finally took it to a mechanic who told me that after running a smoke test that I needed to replace the gas filler tube. I also purchased the gas tube at a Toyota dealer. Mechanic called me and tells me that he was going to have to run another test because the light was still on. He later called and told me that it was the charcoal canister. I purchased it he put it on and the light went off. The following day after picking up my truck the check engine light turned on again. It's at the mechanic right now. I am wondering what he's going to tell me now. I joined this forum to see if anybody in here has had this problem with their Tacoma. If so what was the problem and how was it fixed.
