Baja Designs vs Rigid Amber Color

I didn't find much on this when I was searching for new lights for my 3rd gen 4Runner, so I figured I'd post up some pictures for anyone else who has this question.

I recently replaced a set of Rigid Dually Amber flood lights with a set of Baja Designs Squadron Sport Amber driving/combo pattern lights.

I never cared too much for the color of the Rigids, and the new Baja Designs are much closer to what I wanted.

The color is personal preference mostly, so I wanted to put up a couple comparison pics. The Rigids are the much oranger of the two lights in all the pictures.

 

Lots of info on this in the lighting threads. Rigid is appropriately named 'amber' because they produce amber light. Baja doesn't label their lights correctly and calls yellow 'amber', leading to a lot of confusion about what color the lights are. Rigid also sells yellow lights if you prefer a yellow color, and they are appropriately called selective yellow. Amber is not a very good color light for automotive use in illuminating the roadway or trail, selective yellow is a much better color, which both brands sell.

 

Do you have a part number for those rigid amber lights? I personally like the look of the orange(amber) lights.

 

Interesting. In my searches I wasn't getting any hits for the color difference between the Rigid and Baja Design "Amber" lenses. Maybe because I wasn't using the word yellow in my searches.

It's worth pointing out that it looks like Rigid only sells the selective yellow in an SAE pattern, rather than their regular Dually like what I had. I don't see where you can get just any of their lights in selective yellow like you can the Baja Designs.

The Rigids are 20212 for the amber flood pattern. I plan to put those up for sale along with a set of Rigid hyperspot dually, a set of VisionX Light Cannon clones, and a set of cheap Amazon 6" LED light bars. If you're in the market for some new lights...

 

Definitely true Baja has a much wider offering of yellow lights than Rigid. Rigid has some snap on covers for yellow output but the performance filtration losses are pretty high due to the emitter high color temp used in most of their pods. If looking at just Rigid and Baja, for non-SAE yellow, Baja is definitely the way to go. If looking at all brands I'd also look at Diode Dynamics which has a wide yellow offering.

 

If you like amber, KC also has amber SAE G4s and amber covers for their Pro6 lights. Rigid’s amber products are limited to their lower end lower performing lights IIRC.
