They do seem like a sweet option since they added some functionality for 2022. I dont like those coolers either, would rather have the bed space.

    40k for a SR5 is not a great value.

    That's nuts.

In a thread where someone is discussing buying one, I mean, kind of.

    About this much I'd say

Dumb question but if fog lights are the only problem can't you just add those? Is it just the hassle of doing that vs buying the OR instead (which I think is still a couple grand more).

Since I just got my OR no... not looking to get one.

But in a hypothetical where I'm choosing between an OR and a trail? I'm taking the OR. I'd take MTS and crawl control over some appearance items and a lift.

No because I already have an OR

Even then, from what it seems, I would have to give a big fat NO.

It's going to be in the OR range or more in price while sacrificing MTS/CC for a 1" lift (not much at all) and pro grill?

Toyota needs to make a 4-5K difference between the Trail and OR for me to support it. I was hopeful that it'd be a budget OR for guys who don't have the budget like me but nope, they fucked that up.

Trail upgrade should have been a 2k jump for the entire thing, since the wheels and locking rear diff is what counts. Even GM&Ford allow to spec a non offroad version of their trucks with a locking diff for $500 (2020/2021, which IIRC the locking rear diff is a no cost upgrade on the ranger 501A).

Or Toyota should just make the SR5 have a locking rear diff option without everything else.

That was going to be a hard task as a regular SR5 is only around $1900 less than a Sport/OR when configured the same, you can see why the Trail Edition will be more expensive for 2022.

A 4x4 auto DCSB SR5 w/ tech package and 4x4auto DCSB OR is 4k difference.

So maybe I should cut my comment more to 2k, (or the SR5 is just overpriced for what it offers compared to the competition, which is more likely) but the point still remains; the trail is horribly priced and most trail owners would be better off with the OR and a bed fridge than the trail edition.

Maybe Option Packages change it more depending what is in them but base MSRP is $1975 difference.
    2021 SR5 DCSB AT 4x4 = $35,555
    2021 Sport/OR DCSB AT 4x4 = $37,530

IDK if it's region locked but I got $34,355 and $38,330 for each which is what I commented on, both had the tech package at $499.

Either way the SR5's are anywhere from 5-10K over other models similarly equipped. Basically low end tacomas are overpriced to where they aren't worth it as much as the TRD models. It's a real issue with toyota's pricing.

Like the TRDPRO is probably the best for buck (unless you are going to replace the parts) mostly because I can get a TRDPRO for less than 10K over a trail.

Sorry misread the tech packages, $570 on the SR5, $800 on the TRDOR.

I'm content with my 2017 TRD OR 4x4 for now. I've looked at the new Tacoma's a few times and can't justify the price of the new ones over what my 2017 was considering they haven't changed much. The few extra wants can be easily added like LED headlights, bed lights, stereo upgrades, without having to deal with the extra safety sense tech. I do kick myself for not opting for the manual, but I've got another vehicle that's manual for when I have the urge to shift.

The trail has some nice stuff, but it wouldn't be my first choice of trim level. I like the TRD OR the best. Even over the TRD PRO's. :anonymous:

Maybe something is weird between regions.

Ha! I thought I was going to get this truck for 36-37k. My 2018 OR was a steal at 37.

Insane the TRD OR is going for at least $5k more than I paid in '19, and that's before we get into the insane markups. Rough time to be truck shopping.

Saw one at my dealer and the storage bins in the boxes were the killer for me, as they take a ton of bed space and have almost no real storage. The cooler one looks like it could fit about 12 cans total while taking up half the bed space. Salesman said they weren't removable but this video shows otherwise:

    I am not.

Initial reporting indicated a manual would be available so I considered it. Had it come in a hint below an OR, or MAYBE even AT OR pricing, I would have considered it.

aside from the MT, paying more for it while losing the (slightly) better shocks, fog lights, (maybe) bigger diff, etc only to gain wheels and a grill made it a no-go
