I’ve seen worse vehicles get passed; The body shop is swamped and he’s waiting to get his turn. It’s not like
he’s a negligent vehicle owner who just doesn’t care about his car; The Altima was in what I would consider “above average” to “good” condition before the little fender bender, and it passed emissions with flying colors. The car is otherwise in good condition and they fail him because an otherwise functional headlight has a busted lens…? Bullshit.

I have always hated PA state inspections because I think they are just a way for the state to make money, and because I believe allowing the very businesses who profit from fixing vehicles to conduct safety inspections on them is a conflict of interest.

I take excellent care of my Tacoma and my friend takes good care of his Altima, and neither of us have ever failed an inspection (until this year in his case); The only reason we get our vehicles inspected is because it’s required by law.

Also, my friend’s parents are both attorneys who are licensed to practice law in both PA and NJ; They drive A LOT for work. Dad has a 2013-2014ish RAV4 with like 150K miles and mom has a 2007 Camry Hybrid that just shit the bed at about 200K miles. She has her heart set on another Toyota, but given the current events (chip shortage, supply and demand), no dealer has what she wants.

My friend is being a good son and sharing his Altima with his mom since the Camry doesn’t run; Yes, the Altima looks like shit, but it is not unsafe to drive in my opinion. Money is not an issue here, but rather all of the body shops are swamped and they are just waiting to get it fixed. Renting a car insanely expensive. I have been friends with Doug for nearly 13 years and have known his parents for the same amount of time. If I were a mechanic and I knew the whole backstory, I personally would have looked the other way for a busted headlight lens and passed the car; Like I said, I see genuine shitboxes driving around with valid inspection stickers that make me do the following…

    o_O

I just believe in cutting hard working people some slack during these tough times :)

And for the record, nobody will ever convince me to be in favor of car inspections, EVER. I agree with the safety inspections to an extent, but I take excellent care of my truck and see them as more of a hindrance than a help; Emissions testing…? Even mechanics who PROFIT from them think they’ve kind of outlived their usefulness, since vehicles have become far more efficient and better for the environment even in just the last decade!

Ok you see shit boxes driving around with current inspection stickers. How do you know the car 1 has legal stickers on it. 2 was in good working condition when inspected. May have gotten in an accident a week later.
The thing you are failing to see is the vehicle is checked and if no defects are found at the time it passes. Your friend took his car in for inspection and had defects at the time of inspection.
As for thinking they are just a way to make money and unnecessary. EXAMPLE
for you. you are driving down the road in your tacoma a car coming other way has to panic stop and veers into you head on totaling both cars. The lady just took her car in to have the brakes checked and the machanic told her the left front caliper was bad and need to be replaced she said “Nah in good we don’t have inspection. I’ll just be careful. Well that did work out to well fit her or you.
Unlike yourself there is a lot of people who do not take care of their cars like you and your friend.

I would say the cost of emissions -as pain
I hear you but as somebody lives about 9 miles from the Ohio border and sees Ohio vehicles on the road regularly, I have to tell you there are some pieces of junk moving down the highway that I wouldn't want my enemies to ride in. No inspection means anything goes, literally, if you are brave enough to put it on the road. Not safe for those people or anybody else they encounter. Emissions testing I have no time for either, although, again, they don't do it it Ohio on those oil burning junk vehicles.

Florida seems to be doing just fine without safety inspections; Ditto South Carolina and Oklahoma…

How about those former Lackawanna College Falcons??!!!

Brisker and Brown deliver game saving and game ending interceptions in the final 3 minutes.

My dog alpha keeps tearing up my brother pit nash. Nash keeps trying to hump my dog and keeps over and over again paying the price. Had to break up them fighting 8 times now.

    @Taco critter

Currently at the Buck Motorsports Park in Quarryville with my girlfriend; I first came here in 2014 and I’ve been coming here regularly since 2018. I did not come at all in 2020 because they were closed due to COVID, but believe this is my third time here this summer…

Anyway, I don’t cause trouble at car shows and other vehicle-related events (We’re at a demolition derby right now); While pulling into the gravel and grass spectator lot, I got hung up on a section where it goes from gravel to grass and gave it a little too much gas…

I spun the tires, kicked up a little bit of gravel, and thought nothing of it; I’m driving a rear-drive pickup!

It is fairly cool today so I had the windows down; One of the park security guards directed me where to park and then said “Spinning tires, first warning” like I was some yahoo doing donuts in the parking lot. He was incredibly rude about it in my opinion, considering I was going like 2 MPH and barely moving…

    :brianr:

The verdict: A rough and tough redneck security guard who’s so used to dealing assholes that he comes on a bit strong with someone who spun his tires by accident…

    :luvya:

I actually complained to the guy at the ticket booth and he apologized for the guard’s behavior; I have been here many times, but I don’t think I’m going to be coming back next year…

The staff here has been very kind and courteous, but this has been my second encounter with someone at this venue; The first one was with another spectator who thought it was okay to get involved in my business. I love the Buck, but I’m not wild about the people who seem to be frequenting the place this year… :(
