Simple plywood platform with storage under. Sleeping for four with hammocks... bug screen uses cow magnets to hold down corners, tarp for rain...

This reminds me of my first efforts at sleeping in the back of the truck.

K.I.S.S.-spent 14 days in there this summer through the Bighorns and Beartooth mountains; bug free. Who cares what I think because I am comfy on a pile of rocks, my wife enjoyed herself and signed off on this system. Easy in and out, reasonably light, fast set up, kids love it and ample storage.

I've been thinking about going to a similar setup for when I'm solo camping.

Any progress Scott? If anyone is capable, it's you . My concern would be how to secure it to/through the roof of the cap and how much weight it could handle but I'm sure you would do some type of heavy duty support for it.

Nice setup. I was referring to the tailgate cover.
Here's mine I don't think that I've posted it befor.
It's a old-school carpet kit. I insulateed the shell.. I can sit up on the sides in this configuration.
    20210622_193804.jpg
I flipped the hinges so that it's easier to access the storage from the outside
    20210622_193828.jpg
All loaded up. All the heavy stuff is still low and in the center.
    20210612_090406.jpg
With the middel pices in it makes to a full size bed. we use the exped duo mega mat. Supper warm and comfortable.
    20210612_065715.jpg
And there's the tent on the outside for inclement weather ,bug and really to keep the misses happy.

Nice setup! The old school carpet/bed kits are hard to find now. Looks good!

I'm looking to redo the sleeping platform and putting way to much thought into it, here's the simple setup I started with and used to move from CO to IN, the platform is a bit high but I had to make enough space for moving boxes. Platform was 14" high but I was able to sleep in it just fine, ended up living in my truck like this for 4 weeks because the lease on my apartment got delayed. I stuffed everything I own in there...good times.

If your cap is carpeted you might get away with heavy duty velcro. Works great for some click lights in mine but I haven't tried it with a heavier speaker.

Still in the works, just started it yesterday. Just ordered a Slumber Jack Roadhouse Screen Tarp to go with the setup and still need to get a mattress. My wife and I are very excited to start making trips! I also still need to fill in the sides.

Got the sketches pretty well hammered out. Wood species & amount needed has been calculated. The order of cuts figured out. Power supply/solution is pretty close to being squared away. Just need to email the company a couple questions in the morning and I'll pull the trigger on that purchase and swing by the box store for the wood this week and it'll be off to the races!

    Very nice!
I am really rethinking my current sleeping platform. I just need to find something I like and then build it.

Ive been thinking about doing a bed with a drawer on the driver's side so I don't have to pull my fridge to sleep.
Here's how I ran on a recent trip.

I'm just not happy with the storage of this bed kit, I just want something more efficient.
For our a AZBDR trip I just put my refrigerator behind the passenger seat, but that requires taking the passenger seat in-and-out to install.
Normally I just keep the refrigerator in the back and just pull it out and stick it on a little table which doesn't work out too bad.
So mainly it just comes down to I want something that has better storage and is more efficient.

I totally get it.i just got back from a 8 day trip and pulling everything out every time to sleep is kind of a pain especially if you want to take a nap. I have found the my fridge really likes being in the insulated and shell.
