I was looking for anything leaking and found this while doing an oil change. I didn't see a leak but it seems something was leaking at some point. The smudge is from me touching it.

Thoughts. I have 80k miles but have a platinum warranty if this is something that is covered.

My 2017 3.5 v6 with 34,900 miles on the odo is in the shop as I type this response.
An oil leak that originates from above the P/S pump could be the dreaded timing cover leak.
Luckily, mine is still under warranty as the tech told me the timing cover reseal is major surgery and runs about $4K.
My truck was dropped at the dealer on 8.31 and is still being put back together.

interesting. Hopefully, the extended warranty covers this if it's the same.

Took the truck into the dealership for Center High-Mounted Stop Lamp - Water Leak recall and asked them to check the pic posted and they are doing the timing reseal. The quoted price from Toyota 2200 and is covered. If it was not covered it would be roughly 4k.

Yep i had mine done in late June this year at 39-40k. I'm over 42k now so far so good no signs of leaking.

The warranty labor is 16 hours (x150 per hour) Plus parts another $300-500

Customer pay is likely 20-24 hours most likely. Plus parts and taxes and fees.

Ridiculous that to replace a timing cover seal is about 8-9% the cost of a new truck. Amazing.

Time is money, people think their cars last forever without any kind of maintenance. Should it be leaking that soon? Probably not. Short end of the straw.

glad you had it covered under warranty and problem rectified

I usually don't get the "extended warranty" but glad the wife talked me into it and the finance guy kept reducing the price and upping the mileage.

The one who dies with the most stuff wins.
I don't see any leaks in the pictures in this thread. When I found my timing cover was leaking, THIS is what that leak look. Unless you've caught it in it's absolute infancy, I wouldn't worry just keep watching it.
