    @ColoradoTJ

Did I ever tell you about the first time I drove a Jeep Wrangler? It’s funny and not funny at the same time…

This had to be in either 2017 or 2018; I was still working at Puck as a barback, and one of the bartenders had a late model Wrangler. It was right before we opened, and I’d just finished setting up the patio bar for the bartenders.

The Jeep in question was a black base model 2014 Wrangler 2-door (not an Unlimited), and it was automatic; I knew how to drive stick by this time, but driving someone else’s unfamiliar manual transmission vehicle through Doylestown Borough on a weekend?!?! Forget it!

So, Matt (the bartender) is like “Charlie, have you ever driven a Jeep before?”

    I’m like “My aunt’s Cherokee..”

“He’s like “No, a real Jeep!”

I said no, because I realized that at that point that I’d in fact never driven what hardcore Jeepers would consider a real Jeep.

Next thing I know, he’s tossing me the keys to a Jeep that wasn’t even paid off yet at the time (he still has it, and it has well over 100K miles at this point; It is paid off now, but he decided to keep it longer than usual so he could buy a house for him and his wife, who happens to be my good friend and former boss).

Anyway, I made sure he was absolutely fine with it, and I ended up galavanting around Doylestown Borough, jamming to classic rock, while still on the clock at Puck! :headbang:

I got a job at dealership detailing cars a short time later, and during the 10 months I worked there, I drove so many Wranglers that I lost count; The one thing I HATE about JKs is that they have blind spots out the ass and even the newest models didn’t come from the factory with a backup camera. The current generation Wranglers came standard with a backup camera and were much more forgiving to maneuver in the confines of the cramped detail shop!

Also, I don’t like the way the clutch feels in a Wrangler JK; Several hardcore Jeepers I’ve discussed this with over the years have inevitably disagreed with me, but I honestly feel like my uncle’s 1971 VW Bus has a more forgiving clutch than a Wrangler JK!

I really don’t like JKs either. Now JL…oh yeah.

Blind spots? I don’t have any of those…

I don’t like the 2007-2011 JKs; At least the 2012-newer ones actually had something resembling power…

My friend got rid of his 2011 Unlimited Sahara because it had the 3.8L/automatic, and it was so slow that he didn’t feel safe driving it on the highway!

The little red thing that indicates my door is unlocked came off; I didn’t even know the damn thing was a sticker!

I did manage to put it back in place though…

The only other vehicle my family had longer than the Tacoma was the 1996 Nissan Pathfinder that my dad traded for the Tacoma, purchased new in May 1996 and traded in September 2009, for a total of just over 13 years; The Tacoma will officially beat the Pathfinder for that honor a little over a year from now…

Anyway, no vehicle my family has owned from my birth in 1989 to the present day has ever had something like this happen!

I though it was printed on there like the little pictures on the headlight and windshield wiper control stalks…

The print on my headlight control is started to wear off; This has happened to the wiper control (yet) because I did the variable/intermittent retrofit in late 2016 and that switch isn’t even five years old.

OMG the dreaded door lock sticker delamination. Usually that means complete catastrophic failure of the drivetrain is eminent. You may want to have EMS standing by. Good luck, keep us posted.

Tape it off and use a red paint pen. Then hit it with some clear fingernail polish (glitter optional). Bam.

But seriously that’s cheap as hell on Toyota’s part. Never thought it was a sticker.

My first thought was nail polish.

I’m to lazy to care, so mine would be nonexistent. Gone, never to be a problem again.

When I was still friends with the Rolls-Royce expert from Hong Kong, he insisted up and down that there no pickup trucks in the city because among the other things the cost of refueling would be obscene (it cost home over US$200 to fill up his Rolls-Royce); He was proven wrong on a taxi ride home over two years ago when he saw this red Ranger…
