My Build Thread v3.0

besides paint on the frame and carpet on the wood, im done. was fun to build. just pain in the ass with tryin to build it before bedrug got put in. the bedrug is like 1/4" to 1/2" thick so threw somethings out of wack. and also, putting things in and pulling back out over and over again especially after the bed rug was in and tyring not to drill and get saw dust and metal shavings all over it.

Used Rivnuts to bolt the wood to the frame. the bolts are recessed into the wood. gotta fix the one bolt still sticking up. the rivnut spun on that. will fix when i pull to paint. also need to drill a hole to run the wire for my ARB Fridge to the 12v Port I have next to the outlet.

 

little platforms for the rear seats and mainly to steady out the car seat.. just need to carpet these and the bed platform.

 

New headlights and projectors

 

got the bed platform finished up. the boards are bolted down. recessed the bolts so that i can slide things in and out easier. spare tire will sit there until i feel like putting the swing arm back on. may or may not ever happen.

 

Finally got my new projectors and headlights installed. the old ones were looking bad. plus one of the LED halos went out. Also installed some flush mount lights in the rear bumper.

 

Finally finished up putting carpet on the platforms I put in the back seats.

 

Amazing that you got a car seat back there

 

Yeah. My daughter is almost 5 and fits perfectly back there. Also my wife is 5’1” so that helps too

 

Got my ARB fridge and slide mounted.

First a PSA. for anyone that has done or will do exhaust cam gears, make sure you torque, loctite, weld whatever every bold that you touch.

ok, so let me tell you a story. it starts back in 2013. My originial engine decided it wanted to spin a bearing. replaced engine. all this is in my build thread about pages 22-27.

for a while now i have heard a little ting sound here in there and just thought one of the idler pulleys was going bad. will replace at 90k miles (i'm at 85k now) then a few months ago was hearing the sound i hear in the vid above but like no where near as loud and thought probably a clutch since it sounded like thats where it was coming from and ive dropped the transmission for the hydro bearing and also replaced a cracked Tcase. wasnt worried about it. then friday on the way to work all hell breaks loose and the sound is what was heard above in the vids. so all of this was why i was hoping it was transmission related.

so today decided to drain oil and check in the oil pan. you saw the pics above for that.

next decided to look into the timing chain tensioner inspection cover. couldnt see anything

said fuck it, lets take off the valve cover. when that happened a bolt fell off the engine. i was like wtf where was that shit hiding? once the valve cover was out of the way i saw the problem. who can see the problem in the pic?

so the bolt that came out, was the chain tensioner bolt. also, in the pic of all the metal that was found, you should see what looks like a roller bearing. its not, its the dowel pin for the tensioner in the pic above.

here is the under neath of the valve cover. u ucan see were the bolt was smacking the bottom of the valve cover.



not sure where the rest of the metal came from, or how bad the bottom end is, but im gonna go out on the limb and say i need a new engine and also, this was completely my fault and happened from the install of the cam gears when i swapped engines back in 2013. so make sure you torque shit down like it tells you to

 

Got the engine removed and the transmission removed. awaiting on new engine. going to clean up the engine bay and pay the frame while the engine is out. Also, will clean up the transmission/crawl box/tcase. repaint the drive shafts, and all the brackets that hold the exhaust to the transmission. clean up the supercharger. Possibly repaint the headers black. repaint the skid plates.

So I pulled the exhaust cam gears off and pulled the tensioners out for that chain. Figured out where all the broken pieces and metal flakes came from. Probably could have put a new tensioner and dowel pin in and the engine would be good to go. However I don’t know where all the metal flakes went and had a low oil pressure condition so don’t feel comfortable to put this engine back in with out a full rebuild. But I don’t think anything else was damaged.

The not damaged on is the drivers side and the beat the shit out of one is the pass side and the one that had the bolt come loose

Got some painting done. also have painted other brackets and motor mounts but dont have pics of those

 

Got these in the mail yesterday. Urd heavy flywheel and stage 3 clutch. Total weight of the box was 72lbs. The fly wheel is one heavy bastard.
