I took a trip to the desert this weekend an it was really hot. A couple of my buddies have secondary electric fans so when we are stopped the engine gets cooled down. Is there a way to do that on tacomas?

    It is possible.

An electric fan controlled by a thermstatic switch with a NC relay to run when the ignition is off.

The system has power only with the ignition is off. The thermo switch will run the fan by energizing a 2nd relay. Most thermo switches won't handle the power to run a fan directly. When the temperature drops below the thermo switch set point, the system will shut off. This will prevent depletion of the battery.

Probably only need a 4-6" fan. The regular engine driven fan will handle the air flow needs when the engine is running. Mount the 2nd fan in front of the radiator, it should be a pusher type.

The problem is the fan will only cool the coolant in the radiator. When the engine is not running, there is no coolant flow.

The gain will likely be marginal.
