I'm in the market for a new rack & pinion assembly. Anyone have luck with these Vevor rack and pinions? They are very well priced on ebay, only $167 and have good ratings. Over 614 sold with good reviews!! One thing about eBay is that can't fake your track record when it comes to sales and customer reviews.

ebay indicates its "#6 Best Selling product in Steering Racks & Gear Boxes"

Seems hella legit for aftermarket. I'm actually impressed. I prefer OEM stuff from Japan but the price and reputation seems nice.

The Cardone brand racks I've looked up have pretty bad ratings and are twice the price.

    Here's a Vevor:

I called today about energy suspension bushings for a rack and pinion part number 8.10–103.

if this rack and pinion I mentioned above is supposed to be OEM specs does that mean it’ll be interchangeable with Energy bushings and also would this rack and pinion be interchangeable with OEM outer tie rods?

Dumb question but just wanna make sure...

My rack and pinion is original to my vehicle with 260,000 miles on it.
it doesn’t leak but there’s some play on the inside assembly when you hold the outer tire rod and shake the tire side tp side you can see the part in the video below moving inside. I tried tightening the rack guide to see if that would help get the clunk that occurs when driving out but it doesn’t help.

I was also told by a Toyota mechanic today that what’s happening in the video above is not because of the rack bushings.

The cheap aftermarket 1st Gen racks are like Zoolander looks- They have different names but underneath they're all the same thing made overseas (and it's a complete crapshoot whether they last <1 year or the rest of the truck's life).

I'm not saying it's bad- I was 1-for-2 on my old truck. But the first rack (that failed in less than a year) was replaced under warranty because I bought it from RockAuto and they have pretty great customer service. In had to pay to ship the defective rack back, but the replacement shipped free (plus the refunded core) and arrived quickly. The replacement worked fine. So I'd just recommend buying from a reputable seller regardless of the brand, but that goes for pretty much anything anyways.

I wouldn't. Especially if you do any off-roading or run larger than stock tires. For a commuter/street vehicle, sure it might last a few years...long enough for them to garner up some good reviews. Highly doubt it will last nearly as long as an OEM rack though.

I bought a Detroit gear and axle rack off Amazon a couple years ago. I jump my truck and abuse it a lot, rack probably only has 4K miles but all abusive and it’s been great so far

I got it today and am not impressed. There was no padding in the box so it bounced around and was thrown around in transit. The metal hose lines were all bent. It doesn't even have any stamped maker marks or even it’s country of origin, although it is obvious that its China. My rule: If a manufacturer can’t stamp their name on it and my life depends on the product working properly I will not proceed with installing it.

It just looks way to low quality for my rig. If it was a little part that was not as important or easy to switch out I wouldn’t care as much. Or even if it had a more legit reputation with the forums.

I'm going to send this rack back and go with a remanufactured one direct from Toyota. Its only like $250 more... At least I'll have a lot more confidence in the part.

No they didn't ask for the core.
    But Toyota of Olathe did.

Symbiosis and sustainability is my Toyota rack and pinion going to Kansas to get remanufactured and live on in another Tacoma later down the line.

Curious, how you got the Rack from the Toyota dealer for such a low price. They are quoting me $960 plus tax for a remanufactured rack. Do you mind sharing what was the total from the dealer?
