Solve one problem and create 3 more. The manual coupled with the 3.5 engine is a worse option than the automatic. Especially if you tow or haul any weight. The manuals aren't geared low enough and coupled with an engine that needs 4600 rpm to develop torque is going to be problematic. Besides that it is easy enough to match the best gear for the conditions with an automatic. You need to learn to drive the truck instead of just putting it in "D" and letting the truck drive you.

Big truck vs little truck is a question only you can answer. For most of my life I appreciated small Toyota trucks, but they were simply too small for my needs. At least until my youngest graduated and moved out in 2007. That is when I bought my 2007 DC Tacoma. But by 2016 with several grandkids it was too small. I kept the Tacoma as a 3rd vehicle, but I also added a crew cab F150 to the stable.

When my wife and I were looking for and SUV we were torn between several models. We stopped by a Lexus dealer and told them we liked the GX and the RX, they asked if we would ever tow anything and if we had no plans to tow then the only vehicle we should consider is the RX. We left with the RX and couldnt be happier.

I tell you this story because having owned a Tacoma for 4 years now we are asking ourselves the same question (should we get a tundra). I sold my F250 before getting the tacoma because we didn't tow or haul anymore but still needed the utility of the bed. Years later the tacoma is our defacto road trip, grocery getter, camper, explorer, offroader, weekend wheeler, general purpose vehicle. However, the one thing it doesn't do well is haul large items, people or tow. With a growing family and the need to tow a Jeep we are questioning whether or not to get a fullsize.

The question I would pose to you is do you "need" a full size, are you going to consistently tow a trailer, are you going to consistently haul building material that requires a larger bed? If the answer is no then you should consider the Tacoma. If you plan on towing something every-other weekend or hauling then it sounds like a Tundra will meet your needs.

They will utilize the same engine but the Tundra will be turbo'd. The Tundra is expected to rival all other full-size trucks in it's class with mpg, towing, and tech

I guess I'm confused on why a 5' bed is no good for lumber runs and suburban dad activities, but the 5.5' bed is good to go?

PICK A TRIM COLOR AND STICK WITH IT TOYOTA!

Why is there like 7 different colors on this thing? It is like Toyota is making a Harlequin Tundra at this point.

The Tacoma prioritizes off road ability and manueverability. The Tundra prioritizes space and towing/hauling ability. I think the question is which truck are you less likely to exceed the boundaries of. I tend to steer people away from the Tacoma unless they intend on actually offroading. If kids or frequent hauling are ever part of the equation, I'd go Tundra in a heartbeat.

I love my Tacoma and find the back seat to be sufficient for hauling family and friends. Personally I think that buying
at the end of the generation design is always smart and tend to be very reliable
So that would be my only concern being the tundra is going to be completely fresh and redesigned. I agree with another poster that a test drive of the 2 will help make the decision

The lowest MSRP of a 2022 Tundy crew max should be about $50,000 + $10,000 dealer markup due to ongoing chip shortage = $60,000 total. Rather doubt many will be able to afford that.

I’ve driven a 14 double cab tundra and the back seat room is comparable to the crew cab Tacoma. Not that much leg space unless you get the crewmax cab.

the Tacoma does have the benefit of being smaller and IMO much easier to drive around the city.

I’m sure you can get by with a Tacoma crew cab with 6.5’ bed if you feel the tundra is too wide. The 5ft bed is kinda useless for drywall and plywood.

Solve the garage issue by parking outside. Leaves you more room in the garage for toys or workshop/man cave.

SSO hybrid bumper, Warn winch, RCI skid trilogy, RRW sliders, everything in the cheap/free mods thread, and of course the frame recall work.
You will be putting the dimensional through the back window and destroy the seal. 4x8 will mostly fit. Ish. Maybe 6 to 8 sheets at most. Wide enough over the wheels, but not between them, and it's only a 5 foot bed, 6 if you get the long bed. So tailgate down or all resting on an angle to top of tailgate while closed. It's not great for hauling lumber.
