Prepped for the 62 swap, removed the toolbox so we can pull the bed if we need to. Also swept out about 10 lbs of acorns.

 

So your diff isn't about to blow up now?

 

Well what a long 3 days it's been. Still much to do, but its a short list now.
Sunday started with me being up and ready to rock on time...till I tried to start the truck. Good sign.


I bought a new battery on my way over to @Sociopenguin at 2 Fang Engineering and got the truck up on the lift so we could look it over and see how we were gonna go at it.


Decided taking off the bed was the best course of action so we did...




Ended up scratching the tailgate when our makeshift hoist slid, oh well. .


Once that was out of the way, we got right into chopping the flimsy OEM brackets off. We loosened the bolts and chopped away with it all still assembled, once it was ready we unbolted and tossed the junk. Look at the hidden rust! Leather to protect the gas tank.



Tried hammering the rivets out. Frame bent instead. So we had to re-approach with the plasma.





We threw some 5"ers on the Death Wheel and I went to town. Though my finger got a little close...



No blood, no worries.


Out with the old.


Flap disk and plasma torch then Air Hammer down till victory.




Stupid cross member didn't want to give em up, but finally popped loose those last couple of rivets.



All that crap done. End of the first day.


@Juisebocks and @Sear87 came out to see how things were progressing.

Day 2: Bolt-In Boogaloo.
We started the day bolting in the JD Fab brackets for the new 62" Deavers and immediately hit a snag... The bolt holes don't line up with the lower rivets like they're supposed to on the front hangers...


2 and half hour set back for the day and a trip to the store for drill bits....



After that we got it all bolted up and moved onto the axle.



So we set into getting the pinion angle set up so we could tack and weld in the spring perches. @Sear87 came over and made sure it was meticulously looked over. We strapped the axle to the leaves, set the pinion angle at ~2* down for grip and tacked em in.



Look at all that droop!


All welded up and threw some black on and called it a day. Brats and more Queso for dinner!


Day 3 started with grinding off the old shock mount on the passenger side and on both sides of the axle in prep for the new ones. Have I mentioned my disdain for grinding?


Got everything measured up, left to right and 17-18" off center line of the axle at bump and then tacked and welded.




Then we decided on how much more we were gonna do and quickly got everything done so I forgot to take more photos... but....
I did snag some flex photos before I drove it bedless home for the week!
Need to find something bigger to drive onto!
