Same here. Mine really keeps stuff inside the bed dry. Only worst of storms you'll get very minor water droplets near the tailgate and along the upper bed rails. Just wish it was a bit lighter.

How long do these oem hard covers last ? I have one and like it and now can buy a 2021 takeoff for $200 for a spare but not sure if mine will ever go bad . Hmm what to do . I might try $150 and why not . I guess I could always sell it down the road .

I said the same back awhile ago. Didn't any of the newer 2021 tacoma's sitting in lots with a tonneau cover. Even when i bought my 2020, those trucks with tonneau covers weren't all that popular on dealer lots.

I ordered my 2021 with one. They don't seem like a very common option - most people don't want to use their bed as a trunk (kind of defeats the purpose for most) so I put myself in the minority.

As for leaking, mine does not, but I have to make some adjustments to where the bed hooks sat to get it level as they were interfering with the bump stops on the tonneau. It is heavy so at some point I might replace it with something lighter (every pound on this truck matters), but I think its quality.

I just ordered a '21 with a soft cover. Hard cover did not appear to even be an option?

On a ‘21 it is definitely an option, but ONLY a factory option, because the bed side caps are cut out for it. That means no port installation. If yours did not come with it from the factory it is an aftermarket one. I cannot speak to what you received, but I love my factory tonneau as it is dry, secure and durable and when I recently transported a refrigerator it was easy to take off, although it is heavy. 90% of the time I need the security of a trunk and the other 10% of the time I take it off, no problem.

Order placed, but I am months away from build so I can still make changes. How much did the hard cover cost? $739 for the soft. Sounds like I need to have the dealer change this over for me.

The factory (port installed) cover that came on my 2021 is a Bakflip. It appears to be an MX4. This hard folding tonneau does not require cutting the bed caps or installing those metal posts. My understanding is the BakFlip MX4 is one of the highest selling aftermarket hard covers.

The Bakflip is a very nice Tonneau, but given that it is aftermarket, parts and support will have to come directly from Bakflip rather than Toyota. Also, the installation requires that the Toyota factory rails be lowered, making the rail system incompatible with some products. The Bakflip does give 100% access to the bed without removal, but I only rarely use 100% of the bed and can use the factory cargo divider to keep cargo toward the tailgate, which cannot be used with the Bakflip. Considering the pros and cons, I would rather have the OEM cover, which if memory serves, was $750, making it less expensive than the Bakflip. To each his own on the choice between the 2.

Waited on AG DCSB for 2 months. Take what was available, had a cover. Like a lot of other comments, I think it is heavy. I need it off the truck every Monday. And what do I do with it after I wrestle it off the rails. ... Did this. Just park under the hoist up and out of the way in unused space.

It's listed on the sticker at $1099. Of course when you negotiate down the price of the truck, you are also negotiating down the price of the tonneau.

Not sure if it’s different in Canada but my 2021 arrived at the dealer with the bed rails on. The dealer installed the OEM hard cover in house and left me the rails when I picked up the truck.

If anyone is interested, I’ll have a short bed OEM cover for sale in a few months. Would love to do a bed rail swap. Ordered a shell, which I expect sometime in November/December.

I've had mine off, imo, the truck doesn't seem to perform any different. I don't think the tonneau really matters if on or off. Its easier to brush the snow off it in the winter that shovel it from the bed, plus i can store chit in the bed with the cover on, and not worry about the stuff getting blown out when i'm driving down the highway.

I have no issues with the OEM cover except that it faded a lot. It pretty much matches the cement color of the truck.
