    No...

The body shop that fixed my Tacoma after a drunk driver hit me had a 2016ish F150 in the shop. The owner hit a large pothole, which blew a tire, tweaked the rear axle, and tricked the curtain airbags into thinking the truck was flipping over. The airbags deployed, but the truck was driven from the scene of the incident to the owner's house, and then from there to the body shop; The truck had no body damage whatsoever, but cost to repair was over $4,000 and the insurance company opted to fix the truck.

Everyone was ok. Other driver didn't see me which was his excuse for running the stop sign

Back in like November 2015, when I was still living in the townhouse in Furlong, my neighbor made the dumb decision to text and drive; He plowed his leased 2013 BMW 5-Series into the back of my other neighbor's babysitter's 2012ish Volkswagen Passat that was parked in the street a bit too far from the curb...

Thankfully, there was nobody in the Passat and my neighbor wasn't hurt!

The right front of the BMW was destroyed, the radiator was busted open, and I'm pretty sure the front right wheel got tweaked; All of the airbags in the deployed, including the knee airbags on either side of the steering column that I didn't realize existed until I saw the aftermath of that accident...

Anyway, the BMW had to be towed and I thought for sure it would be totaled; The Passat WAS totaled. Imagine my shock when not even a month later I was out for a walk and saw my neighbor getting out of this BMW, which was now repaired good as new. I asked him how much it had cost to fix (he went through insurance as far as I know), and he told me $18,000. I'm guessing this car had to be worth $50,000 at the time, so it makes sense; Good thing it was a lease though because with the amount of damage it sustained I would not have wanted it back!

That's what concerns me with the possibility of it being repaired.

Airbags deploying do not always guarantee total loss. Usually but not always.

in OPs case due how much damage was caused, I would say yes. I'm not an insurance adjuster though, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express this summer.

Unfortunately, with all the airbags deployed, it's likely totaled; It doesn't look like the frame was damaged, which makes it even more annoying.

I was hit by a drunk driver back in 2015 (not long before the BMW incident I mentioned above) and though my truck was far from being totaled, I can tell you that there are few things more infuriating than your vehicle being smashed up as a result of someone else's stupidity!

    Glad you weren't hurt!

Is your truck leased or bought? Paid off yet? You can get "diminished value" from the other driver's insurance company if the truck does get repaired.

I couldn't open my passenger door. Would that be an indication of frame damage?

So he's implying that it's okay to just blow a stop sign if you THINK the intersection is clear? o_O

Could be; That's what happened to the driver's door of the drunk guy's 2002 Mercedes after he hit me in 2015. Everyone I told the story told me it was a solid indicator of frame damage...

If it was a lease, I'd say let the insurance company fix it if they want or and give the truck back when the lease is up; Did you plan on selling this truck or keeping it for a while? How many miles on it?
