Hey y'all, new to the forum & just wanted to say hello! Got my 2021 TRD Off Road back in February & since then I've just been lurking. I'm doing a 3 yr lease, but I'm pretty sure I'll be buying it out at the end of the lease — especially if Tacomas keep gaining value like they have been lately! No upgrades yet, but I'm planning on throwing on some new wheels & tires in about a week or so; possibly a small leveling kit as well. I found a pretty good deal on some brand new matte black TRD wheels wrapped in 265/70r17 Falken Wildpeak AT3Ws, just figured it would be better to get them put on after I get my 6 month service done next Friday...

Anyway, just thought I'd introduce myself! If you have any new owner tips or tricks, I'm all ears!

Congrats on the truck! If you can swing it, probably would come out net money better to buy before the end of the lease, even if it was using a loan, would probably end up being net less money than running the lease and buying at the end. If that makes sense. I guess it would depend on what purchase price they used and what the lease buyout number they gave you. But you could figure it out which way is best.

Yeah, I've looked at the numbers a little bit. I'm most likely going to actually sell it at the end of the lease instead. I'd really like to have the premium package in my next one. Living in Utah & having a dog that gets dirty here & there, having leather has always been a huge benefit for me. This one basically had everything other than the leather & camera system, & they were on back order for one like mine with the TRD Premium package, so I pulled the trigger on this one. With the buyout price I'm getting & the way that these bad boys are not just holding their value, but even gaining value, I'll be able to get a good chunk of change to put down on my next one! Appreciate the info though, & I'll def keep an eye on the numbers!

Cool, that makes sense. It is hard to find "exactly" what one is looking for these days. Probably easier to get close enough and then make it how you like it.

I actually was thinking the same thing on my old SR and priced out Katskin. They looked really nice and, if I recall, about $1700 to professional install full leather in front and back. They also have some cool unique color and pattern options. I was thinking, well that might be cheaper and easier than finding a premium package.

Welcome to TW! My 2 cents, just got some 17” methods and 265/70/17 ko2’s. It noticeably heavier to drive and brake. Nothing bad but I went and got a KDMAX tune and it seriously changes the whole truck. Makes it actually fun to drive and the truck doesn’t lag anymore, it’s fast off the line and way better on the freeway. I’d suggest looking into a tune if you go bigger wheels/heavier tires. You can also fit 265/75/16 in stock if you wanted. Looks a little more aggressive.

Good advice. I have an order at DT for the 265/75r16.

My truck shifts really nicely, it’s a 21, but it is a little slow on the acceleration compared to other pickups I have driven.

I was debating on the KDMax or a “sprint booster”. Not sure which direction to go yet.

Yeah, I can only speak on behalf of KDMax but it definitely goes in my "Must-have" category. Really anything that helps with the shift points and pedal lag. Especially after bigger wheels and tires. Let me know what you go with!
