I’ve got a 96’ Toyota Tacoma 3rzfe that the speedometer and odometer do not work. I’ve taken the gear and cable out of the transfer case to inspect the gear and it spins and looks fine. I took my drill and hooked it up to the cable and the speedo will move intermittently mostly not at all. Is the cable broken or is there an issue with the cluster on the dash? Should I take the dash apart and inspect that end of the wire?
    ...
After taking the cluster out and looking at the female end of the cable on the dash side when I spin it from the transfer case it will spin but the cable on the transfer case side will slide in and out. When it’s pushed all the way in it will spin the dash side but when it comes out a little bit it will stop spinning on the dash side.
    ...
Seems that I have three options an oem (2 versions) cable or an ebay one. The oem has two versions which seem to be W(tachometer) or Just a W I assume means without a tach. Kinda confused though. Any input on which one a should get would be great.

I'm in the exact same boat. How did you determine whether it was your cable or the gauge itself gone bad? Someone on a Youtube video comment about this said you could feed a new cable through the trans end and not have to take the dash apart. That would be amazing if true. But I wouldn't want to even try that if it's my gauge and not the cable that's gone bad. Help! Thanks-
