Now I'm confused. CB or ham/gmrs? They're different. They won't work together.

We mostly use CB. I do have hams so I can relay messages to someone who don’t have CB.

Where are y'all coming from? Any idea where you'd want to start? 3 Days really isnt enough time to do the whole thing. We found the area around Harlen to be pretty nice

I have one. I have my amateur license so I can do it legally. Well. Not gmrs but still I can use it there. But the speakers are abysmally quiet. I borrowed a handheld FRS this weekend and it was great I could hear them over road noise. The baofengs are just super quiet. Im looking at the radioditty ones as a potential too.

I'll probably grab a handheld cb just to have it. Maybe for this trip maybe not.

I did the opposite. I got my GMRS license but haven't taken the test for HAM.

I figure a coms setup is only as good as the other people you're wanting to talk to. I figure it's easier to get people to get a $70 license with no test vs study and go take a test. Hell I was interested and put it off for years. I can't really expect more out of anyone else.

Hell, I want a radio in the wife's truck. There's NO WAY she's taking the Ham test, but she actually did the paperwork for the GMRS and it covers everyone in the household

I'm flexible, I think it sounds like monday AM people are scrambling form wherever we're at, so that will probably be me too - head out Monday AM sometime. I don't know my arrival plan yet, I don't know what I'm doing that week yet  BUT I think @Brian422 was talking about doing some trails on Thursday and I don't want to tag in a stock truck and be an anchor.

Okay - Kiboshing the whole plan for the OBX/NC/SC during the week - Hitting up UP I think instead.

Anyway long of the short - puts me coming in right now Friday mid day, I put Harlan. That's probably a bit flexible and will be a bit earlier but that's factoring in a lot of random time and stops to enjoy things - I did a trip where I planned 10-11 AIS and that sucked. I enjoyed my trip when it was 7-8 AIS max, so that's what I'm planning. All that and my stupid little map in my signature will only gain Wisconsin

Anyway - if you get a better idea on routes/times let me know, I can change my plans for that day for where to meet up.
