Hey guys, I'm just asking opinions on the "market value" of a complete, ready to bolt-in rear axles assembly that has the OE e-locker. I found one recently, I'm trying to decide if it's a great deal or not.

I tried selling a complete rear end out of a TRD Offroad for $1000. I had some interest but not a ton.

    Depends on the miles.
I think $800. Would be fair with out knowing mileage and maintenance history.

Bearings and seals are a lot of work to replace on these trucks. That would play a big factor in what I’d be willing to pay.

As stated depends on mileage, I have a first gen and bought a complete third member with locking diff for $450. Little did I know the left axle was bent and I spent another $300 or so for bearings and a used axle. I've seen some for sale for $500 but it can be a hit or miss just like mine. Unless you know what to look for and do, its hard to test if the locking diff and components are working correctly without seeing on the vehicle before pulling it.

Thanks for the feedback. I saw a Taco on FBMP being parted out at a yard in VW. I contacted the guy about it, they want $800 for the axle, drum to drum. When I asked about removing it in such a manner that the ebrake cables and the harness, dash switch and ecu needed to be included, they changed their tone a bit. It sounded like too much work for them to not cut everything free with a torch.

yea its best to grab everything you can, otherwise everything would be a custom wiring job. I think some tacomas have stuff like 4x4 wiring and connectors built-in, just need to plug stuff in, which makes the job way easier.

I don’t recall what I sold mine for but I priced it to sell with low miles off a 15. You don’t need anything forward of the locker plug, just the complete unbolted assembly. There are aftermarket wiring kits with a harness to use use the OEM locker. If someone wanted the full harness, under dash wiring, switch and ECU I’d easily pass to the next buyer. That would be way more work and complexity than it is worth, especially for something like $800.

On my first gen I just ended up doing a custom wiring job, but someone had already laid out the groundwork here on the forums. All I had to do was buy the correct relay and wire everything up, I did hear about an aftermarket wiring kit which makes it a plug-and-play. I would probably have done this if I didn't have experience with electrical work.

Even knowing how to do it, the time savings and simplicity of plug and play can be beneficial assuming the cost isn’t unreasonable.

Edit, lots of them out there, here is one example:
