Cat Security Shield Installed

Got the Cat Security Shield installed in my truck about and month ago and no issues. I was lucky enough to be a part of the prototype for the 2wd version as it’s different than the 4wd. The team working on the design were on point. They didn’t leave any room for fit and finish issues. I should be getting my black powdered coated one in a few weeks. I’ll update with more pics.

It fit right in perfect with your front TRD shield.

 

Curious as to the effect of heat build up.

 

That’s what I’ve always thought, cats run very hot, now even hotter with these shields…

Now they can steal your cat, and get some extra money in scrap metal too

in all seriousness it looks like a good deterrent. I’d worry about those side pieces rattling in the future though.

What does a cat cost? Is it worth spending $300 to deter thieves?

 

could be around $1200 for factory replacement. depends where you go.

 

Seems like a solid investment if you live in an area where one's vehicle could be prone to thieves.

 

I put one on my 4WD truck a while back. Took a 2000 mile trip with no obvious heat related problems.

If that was directed to me--no. For political reasons I will not go to California. Went to Colorado.

 

Almost always it seems SoCal has the cat theft problem. Good luck. Seems to be enough of a pain in the ass they’ll go elsewhere.

 

Looks great....one thing I'm wondering....I realize it's only a deterrent....but in theory, how quickly could they simply cut it out enough to get to the cats? Extra min or two?

 

From the pics, looks like the same 4 holes I had to drill & install Riv-Nuts. The OP also seems to have used the front-center loooooong bolt that I ignored since the nut seems to be a PITA to install.

As to cats running hotter pre/post install, I didn't compare cat temps. That being said, I've had mine installed (2019 TRD OR) since about June 29. My vehicle hasn't burst into flames yet, despite frequent hour+ long trips at highway speeds.

Interesting, wonder if they tweaked the dimensions on the end tab at the front since it looks like it fit with your Pro skid with no issues. For mine, I had to do some trimming of the end to get it to fit so the other bolt holes at the back end would line up correctly. If the dimensions aren't different, I'm now wondering if maybe the fitment on my skid was off a bit
