They're in a different store now. The place has like 4 parking spaces in a super tight neighborhood. But it's worth it.

I bought a fairly budget-minded rock racer recently, a 1/10 Dromida Backbone, exclusive to in person at hobbytown. It was fairly lackluster in the speed department, just didn't have the oomph I wanted. I upgraded the motor/esc to brushless, switched to lipo 2s batteries, and proceeded to break some stuff but did it with a smile.

I've since replaced a front shock I bent, rear swaybar end link I broke, and put in a metal driveshaft that also broke. A lot of the parts on it are plastic so I'll upgrade to metal as I break them. Today I built a new front bumper for it out of 14 gauge steel since I broke the plastic one. Will be replacing the plastic skin with some aluminum sheet metal for aesthtics.

Overall, very fun, very rowdy. Wish I started with a different platform that had more of an aftermarket but I'm making do for now.

Couple more. I have kept it relatively stock with some easy mods. I only crawl so I'm easy on parts, no high speed bashing. Still has stock plastic links, but upgraded tie rod and u joints, and metal gears. Inner fenders, tires and beadlocks, high clearance panhard, softer springs for the Icons to lower the stance, sliders, lenses for the rear lights, tacoma grill decal, lower fuel cell, some scale stuff. Still love the stock tan body, but my brother hooked me up with the pearl white body as well to match my old 1:1.

Got black diff covers for the ar44's and noticed how worn the pumpkins are! I'll probably have to replace the housings due to a hole in the pumpkin before any c hub breakage.

    That brings back some memories!

I've got one of those sitting on the shelf in the garage that I bought in 2005-2006? It was a sour lemon out of the box! Carb was junk and never sealed right and the radio and the electronic shifter control mechanism (opti-drive or whatever they called it) crapped out within a month or two. Also, the graphics on body were crooked out of the box, the brakes were terrible, and the shocks were setup way too soft from the factory. All that for around $600 too.

After owning 3 T-Maxx's (.15, 2.5, 3.3) and a 2.5r nitro rustler I bought one of those 2.5r Revo's. I haven't touched Traxxas with a ten foot pole since then. :boink: Much prefer to buy the kits, build them myself and add my own electronics.

Definitely miss the nitro scene though. Those T-Maxx's were the biggest scene in the RC industry at one point. So many hop ups and options to be had. Aluminum everything, wheels, tires, bodies ect. Also the 1/10 scale nitro stadium trucks. Those were a blast.

It's all part of the hobby. :D

I did upgrade to a Futaba 3PM at the time and had it running briefly, but then I dropped the charger for the lithium battery that went to the opti-drive or servos?...(can't remember) and decided to put it on the shelf after that.

I should see if I can get it running again. ;)

I have flipped a couple of those revos that needed to have the opti drive ripped out, a new radio and rebuilt trans. They always come from someone who has no clue where the needles start from the factory or how them adjust based on conditions. Nitro is a losing popularity with electric becoming so much better.... I think it still has some niche interest and would be super cool to see it advance too.

I've also got a T-Maxx that's been sitting probably a decade that I've thought about getting back up and running with a better motor and ditch the 2 speed stock tranny but actual full size vehicle projects take precedence

Picked up an axial scx24 today. Man this thing is fun and capable! No wonder it is so popular, especially at its price point.
