I'm at a dilemma of what would be the best choice here. My truck at the moment is doing nothing but towing and hauling. Plans in the near future is to put an ARE topper on it with the flip up rear door (MX HD model) and set it up for camping with solar panels and dual Aux batteries. I have NO plans to do extreme off roading for this truck.

I'm leaning towards the leaf spring upgrade. Don't want to raise it more than a couple inches.

Second choice at the moment is the ride rite air bags with onboard air.

Any one using the Weigh-safe distribution hitch?

    Check build thread!
I did the airbags with the onboard air. Love them SO much.

I had airbags on my 2014 with no regrets. Empty run low pressure, loaded fill it up to what ride night you want! Easy peasy. On board air adjustable is a great option I really like the idea of having a nice compressor on the truck.

hauling heavy is all but impossible to Know the weight

anything more than 500 a distribution hitch would be adequate...............less not necessary

I used bags as they are adjustable..............empty.......light.......heavy

can compensate for loaded bed or trailer..................both

Both are Stock - built correct from the start.
My company had normally 37 Tacomas which towed everyday. We added AALs. My personal trucks(7) have all had Airlift bags. They are there when you need them, not when you don’t. I went with Wheelers 1.5 in AAL on my latest truck, ‘19 Sport 4x4. I did that because after adding a ARE Max topper, toolbox and bedmat the rear dropped about an inch, empty. My larger rv trailer I did use WDH but my smaller trailer I tow thousands of miles a year and haven’t needed any additional support.

My truck has the air bags and onboard air. Wish list is short - 3 leaf AAL to get a bit more travel when the truck is running light. Compressor is a pretty handy tool with many uses besides operation of the two small air springs.

On my 2015 I started with cheap airbags and after a few months and one leaking I went to sumo springs. I have a topper and tow a small trailer with tongue weight 400-450'ish
On my 2021 I went to the ride right air bag, but did not add the onboard compressor. Worked well for a couple of months then started to leak... without much traveling. The shop that installed tweaked... leaked again... now on both bags... they only tweaked the leaking one...
Then they replaced... have done about 10k miles since then, with a lot of towing and they are working as they should.

Bilstein 6112 front / 5100 rear (extended) shocks, Headstrong AAL, Firestone airbags, 4.88 gears, OME Carrier bearing drop kit, Aluminum 1/4" skids (engine to transfer). Custom sliders (1.75" HREW tube w/ 3/16" base plates). Custom front bumper and high clearance rear bumper (1/4" steel plate, 1.75" tube.) Apex 5500 winch w/synthetic line (36lbs) and required accessories for an underpowered winch (snatch blocks and extra line.) Tekonsha P3 brake controller, remote start, any-time-backup camera w/ front facing camera, Leer 100R shell (w/e-track single slot tie-down mounts for removable Yakima EasyTop.) Cat shields by CaliRaised. Husky liners, window tint, heated seat (passenger only.) Relentless bed rail brackets with QuickFists (shovel/axe/fire extinguisher.) Hondo Garage Un-holey vent mount. Anytime rear with front facing camera. Billet front seat risers. Viair 88p. 265/75r16 Goodyear Ultra-terrain tires.
I went with AAL and ride-rite airbags (w/ manual inflation) which works well for me (have ~50k miles on this setup.) My trailers all have tongue weights <400lbs.

I do wonder sometimes if a heavy duty leaf pack replacement alone would work for my needs (without the airbags) but I'm not curious enough to spend the $$$ to swap it out (plus the airbags have thus far been hassle free.)
