The mig max 215 I had, had a smaller nozzle that any of the other mig guns I’ve used. My guess would be it’s to get a full size nozzle on the gun.

When fabrication/millwright put food on my table the last thing I wanted was to get near anything along those lines when I took a few weeks down time.I did not need the extra money

Burn out I can see when it is for fun and no pressure I enjoy doing my own projects now again

That’s where I’m at these days as well. It’s easier to just work the overtime at work if I want more play money. I’m not much into pre selling my free time these days. Plus building stuff for yourself is the most enjoyable, and if you aren’t rushed turns out the best.

Well boys I picked up the gun for the 3rd time last night and ditched the flux core because I got some gas, how do these look? I think I actually turned the wire speed down a hair from the chart rec’s. This is 3/16 plate, on 240v with about 20 cfh. I’d like to start working on my 1/4” winch plate & backing plate and gussets etc. this inexpensive HF mig 170 has been absolutely great! It’s hard to stay straight when I’m not following an actual gap or joint that’s for sure. Stoked on this practice and how smooth Things seem to be going but I’m all ears for feedback/improvement

Ok you can run a bead time to start on Tee joints then break them and see what you have .

See if your penetration is even through the whole joint

The trick is figuring out what your doing correct then keep repeating

    Reserected from the dead.
Try pushing the weld to see if you can get the welds a little flatter. I like flatter welds that allow a bit more penitration with less welding media applied.

Otherwise, maybe a little less wire speed?

You got the gist. Time to make something.

Heck yeah thank you for the advice that makes sense to me. Maybe a little slower and less wire speed. I was pushing all of those welds except the first 2 on the inside of one of the pieces

I made a T joint with flux core the other day, hit it with a hammer several x it didn’t break, only bent. But man was it an ugly bead

only weld the one side Then break towards the weld

You can make quite a few welds out of 4"x4" pieces most thickness below 1/4" it will have enough penetration it will just bend.

    Weld yourself a sign.
Then get the grinder and paint out and make it look decent.

    Then make me one too.
