After weeks of sourcing for a Warn Platinum Zeon 10s for my 3rd Gen Taco, I hit the jackpot today and was finally able to find one (LAST ONE according to the store). 7-8 months ago, there were no issues and I made the decision to forego the purchase of the winch since my CBI covert bumper wasn't going to arrive for 10-12 weeks anyway (ended up being ALOT longer). What a mistake.. but who would have thought buying a winch would be such an ordeal?

Interestingly enough, during my search, I discovered a new company (at least to me) that seems to have a legit product. Known as ComeUp, they seem to make quality stuff. It would have been my second option since I didn't have a great experience with Smitty Built in the past.

Sorry for the ramble here.. wanted to share my story with y'all since my wife does not get why parting with 2K deserves any celebration.

County of origin? Availability of parts and or serviceability?

I felt a lot more like I hit the lottery when I scored my smittybilt XRC for $40 on Craigslist a few weeks ago.

ComeUp makes a great winch. I'm biased and got some shit for promoting them, but they are really well made in Taiwan (not china). It's really hard to find a winch or parts not made in china even with the psuedo USA companies. They've actually been around for quite awhile, make a lot of OEM parts for other companies and vertically integrated making 70% of their components in house including their motors.

I was wondering if I ordered a new F250 with a Ford Performance, Warn winch would the winch be on back order, or does Ford have a supply of Warn winches ready to drop in the truck when it rolls off the line.

I don't know what model Winch they are using. I guess I could look all of this up if I wanted to.

Yeah I too like to see how fancy a Taiwanese winch can get at the $2000 price point lol.

Meanwhile Matt's Off-Road Recovery uses Harbor Freight winches on a hitch cradle. Until recently they didn't have proper electrical connectors and would screw the wires to the battery with an crescent wrench at the recovery site. And they are professionals who do multiple winch pulls every week.

You can get one of their Seal Gen 2, 9.5K winches for around $1000

Agree with you on the ComeUp.

The Tacoma was retired from towing duty to farm truck in late 19 (200K+ miles) and replaced with a ZR2 Bison. The 3.5L just didn't seem to have the power of the 4.0L in my 12 and I was having problems with both local Toyota dealerships. Chevy offers the 9.5 Gen II Seal RS ComeUp winch as a dealer installed option on this truck through their parts dept with full warranty and it was included as part of the deal. So far, the winch has been great - synthetic line and wireless remote are awesome features. Supposedly, their braking system generates much less heat at the drum and is therefore better for synthetic line. I've had a M8000 w/steel wire on the TJ for over twenty years so have some experience with Warn products as well. I do miss some Tacoma things - inverter, interior storage, better hitch mounting system for my small fifth wheel, more aftermarket support but the Chevy ain't half bad (45K).

Looks good! My covert just came in but waiting for the warn 9.5. Did you notice the weight at all? Assuming you don’t have to drive with a front plate?
