I have a 2006 AC TRD Off Road PreRunner Automatic with the V6. I just hit 90,000 miles today.

I just realized I have a local drag strip that is only $35 to compete. I was wondering if I were to compete for fun would I risk breaking anything? If not would I even be competitive at all?

    Just wondering, thanks!

Since you have an 06’ I’d be weary of blowing a head gasket.
My understanding is the LATE model 06’ trucks got the updated gaskets.
But the definitive date is not know.

    Other than that, not really.
But I guess that depends on how you are driving it too.
Are you brake TQ with 4WD engaged to launch? And are you manually shifting.
There’s a lot that goes into “breaking” stuff. And then other times, it doesn’t take much at all to break something.

Don’t do it. It’s not worth it, it’s a Tacoma.

    you have a 06 with 90k!
    That’s a avg of 6k a year.
    My 12 has 150k.
Why would you do this it’s not worth tearing it up now.

Frankly.....I doubt if you will "tear it up". These trucks aren't fragile.

Competitive??? Depends on the bracket you're in.

    Fun?? Most likely.

Ummm you will be slow, and I don’t think you will break anything. Been to the drag strip a lot.

based on how my tacoma drives, just floor it at the start and it will just go, nothing else you can do. Mines doesn’t spin the wheels. (265-70-17)

If you bracket race, you could win. All you have to do is put it in D, and cut a consistent light and try to run a consistent time. You're not going to break anything.

If the $35 event is "run what you brung" there may be a few station wagons, family sedans and pickups that people bring just for fun, like you are thinking about. If you've kept up on maintenance and it doesn't overheat, I would not worry about breaking anything... yes you are stressing the truck by doing multiple WOT runs, but it is a truck so you should be fine. Have fun.

If you do, get it on video so we can all watch.

Go have fun! You're not going to have a traction problem - especially in 4wd. Check the track rules though - you may need a helmet.

If the starting box isn’t treated with traction spray you should be just fine. Have fun and post up some pics!!!

I have a PreRunner so no 4WD. How big of a difference do you think that will make?

Little this. Little that 4x4 Swap’d PreRunner
None really. These are basic trucks that target reliability and fuel efficiency over power and performance from the factory. A few runs in a stock vehicle down a track won’t be any worse on the truck than a hard acceleration onto a highway, or smashing the gas to pass someone.
Just do it and have fun. Highly unlikely you break something.
Track reliability issues when you add HP or tuning. Changing factory components for performance parts etc. running a stock vehicle is the safest. “If it ain’t broke don’t fix it” general rule. If you haven’t opened the can of worms, you’ll be fine.
