3rd Gen Tacoma Less than $50 LED headlights: Auxbeam H11 (low beam) install

Took me less than 5 minutes to install LED lights as they are plug and play. Less than $50 on amazon.

Obviously the rave reviews on Amazon exceeded my expectations. Decided to go with the Morimoto 2 Stroke 3.0 and has been such a significant difference. Yes these were a great budget friendly option but the sad thing is it did not come with the light. They were almost non-existent. I caught myself squinting as if I could not see the road, when in fact there was not enough light to illuminate bright or deep enough for me to see safely.

WOULD NOT RECOMMEND

You see those hot spots with the halogens? You want those

 

Nicely done! Inexpensive, quick, easy modification to blind oncoming traffic.

 

You could do the H9 upgrade for about the same price and produce far better light throw

 

On-coming drivers will curse you.

Plus the packaging clearly states what use they are intended for.

 

Not an exact comparison I know but I just went outside and turned-on the low beams on my Taco which has the OEM LED Headlights. You can see from your roadway pic how much more wasted light you have going out to the sides and upwards. A fine, focused beam, whether that be from an LED, Halogen or even a properly-adjusted Sealed Beam will give you better, more usable light.


Pic was taken with my truck parked on the curb. When I'm driving it down this same street the light covers the roadway and doesn't hit the sidewalk. My Fog lights also were not on in this pic.

Wow! What a complete clusterfuck of an LED product. There is a reason AuxBeam is known to be such a poor quality garbage brand and one that should be avoided. You have inverted your headlight beam pattern by using an LED not at all compatible with your OEM halogen assemblies by a company that clearly lacks understating of basic optical engineering. Your lights now dump pathetically short range foreground light immediately infront of the truck and lost their distance projection, which is the primary purpose of a headlight. The wall shots are enough to show just how bad this product is, the headlights have completely lost their critical hotspot and shifted the beam pattern down for very short range illumination. Even the pictures of the LEDs are completely laughable, those designs are 5+ years old clearly pushing yesterdays old throw out products for cheap on gullible buyers. Good PSA for others to avoid.

LOL. Literally no one with any lighting knowledge would give AuxBeam the time of day.

 

But they are sold on America’s biggest retail shopping site with glowing reviews

 

To further emphasize the point, here is the Opt7 from 2016 vs a halogen H4 I tested 5 years ago. This is my own photo from nearly 5 years ago to the month. Look strangely familiar to the 'new' AuxBeam? The very wide width causing catastrophic loss of beam focus, loss of distance projection and shifting the light to entirely foreground light. They also utilize the old spreader optic dome on top of the emitter trying to make up for lack of focus. This design is archaic for LEDs and no reputable companies sell this anymore because it is obsolete and doesn't work. Except that is for those companies looking to sell obsolete cheap garbage products to unsuspecting buyers that fall for their BS marketing.

I actually ran these on my last Tacoma because I wanted LEDs and they had great reviews on Amazon. They seemed great at first because I liked the color more than the stock halogens. But after a few months I noticed they were already starting to dim down. Not only that but they reached out to the sides more than forward where I needed the light. Would not run again or recommend them

 

There is a lot of unappreciated engineering and science behind optical headlight design and unfortunate undue credit given to misplaced lighting bias causing people to favor the wrong kind of light (foreground) for "a review". Vehicle lighting is a critical safety system. If the reviewer does not understand this very basic science, you can only imagine how good the rest of their review will be.
