If you want the rustic vibe, go for it. A new box fan is like… $15.

Yeah, and a new box fan isn't gonna last more than four decades like this one did...

What do you think a new motor is going to be? Old like the fan? No...

I like the way the fan looks... :anonymous:

I'm sure somebody somewhere has an old motor that still works; How much would a new motor cost?

Easiest way would be to buy a new fan and use that hahahahaha, then you have a new fan in old fan camouflage

The motors in my opinion aren't that bad; A new Lasko box fan has plastic blades and other cheap parts. The Frigid here has metal blades and a metal chassis!

You weren't far off; A 20" Lasko box fan is $20 at Home Depot...

Can't help but wonder what the Frigid sold for when it was new!

I belief the fan you have is In this collection. You can buy the 5 of them and have 5 cool vintage fans and if you’re feeling froggy you can swap the motor from this to the one you currently have

It would be interesting to see what the differences in the motors are like between a Lasko and yours. I agree newer fans just don't seem to have the power of older ones.

$200 though? Also, I wouldn't disfigure a working fan to fix this one...

Not so much the power, but the quality...

My Grandma's old house in Connecticut did not have central A/C (it does now, and being in Greenwich, it's also worth over a million dollars), and she had probably half a dozen of these white 1980s box fans; They worked great!

I've convinced my dad I can get this one running, and also $200; Like I said, I am saving up for a house. I'm probably gonna rent an apartment for a year or so before buying a place, but buying a place ain't gonna happen if I keep spending my paychecks on shit I don't need...

re: quality - I would posit the overall functional quality exceeds what new fans would have today in terms of the power of the motor and surface area of the fan blades. I grew up in the 80's with my grandfather cooling his lakeside camp with the same kinds of fans in the windows in the evenings. I can almost guarantee they will move more air than a newer one.

Cars of the 80s, even K-cars, were built a lot stronger then than they are now!

Yeah l think bumper covers today are more decoration, lol. He hit that K Car squarely on the bumper too, if it had been on an angle it probably would have damaged it.
