Currently on 265/75r16 wildpeak ATs and have loved the way they've worn and the way they've performed on and off road (especially in the snow), that being said im looking to go up to a skinny 33 (probably skinny 35s down the road as well lol). I would've loved to have moved up with another set of wildpeak ATs but they only offer the skinny 33 on 17s and I'm running stock OR wheels, so its looking like the choice is between wildpeak MTs and geolandar MTs. Snow performance would be paramount to me being in NE but treadwear is also pretty high up on the list. Don't really care about noise and I figure the gas mileage difference will be negligible so that's also a non issue for me, any help appreciated :D

neither of the tires you mention will be comparable for daily winter driving. I hand sipedthe center tread on my Toyo’s to make them work better for winter…. Cooper st maxx would be a better all around tire for winter dd needs. If only Toyota put 17’s like the rest of the manufacturers do…. I like my 255/80r17 wildpeak AT3W’s. Have had them on my jeep in the past also in a larger size

I like 16s for the extra sidewall but the options list is abysmally short for it, been considering just buying some take off sport wheels to be able to stay with the at but that's a tough swing right now...

Similar situation here. I had those same Wildpeaks (well, I had the SL version, not sure if you had the LT or not) and also loved them. Quiet, comfy and took everything I threw at them offroad. Not that I'm some crazy off road guy but I have done a good amount of moderate to difficult trails here in CA and never ran into any problems with them. Never experienced mud and only one experience in snow (it was fresh, deep powder).

I'd been eyeing skinnies since I was considering a taller tire and didn't see the point in going wider. I only had 8k on my Wildpeaks but a deal came up for 3 lightly used Geolandar G003's so I bought them as well as 2 brand new ones. Just got them mounted but don't have many miles on them yet and haven't been offroad. So far they're definitely a lot louder but it's more of a consistent hum rather than lots of others I've heard where it almost sounds like you hear every tread block as it hits the ground. They 'feel' heavier too. This is super subjective and honestly it's kinda even tough to explain how they feel different. The steering is a bit heavier and acceleration feels more sluggish. I assume the former is due to the whole tire just being so much stiffer and there being no give when I turn the wheel compared to the Wildpeaks which were quite soft (especially since mine were SL rated). And I assume the latter is from the increased weight. I don't yet have a full tank through the truck so not sure on mpg yet.

I have heard some positive reviews about the Geolandar G003 in snow - there are some threads you can find if you search.

I'm looking forward to testing these off road this fall/winter. I kept my old Wildpeaks as I wasn't sure which ones I'd like more. Figure I'll keep whichever I prefer and sell off the other set. As of now I'm almost certain that an MT is way overkill for my needs but this is a good opportunity to learn and try something since I'm new to all of this.

I've got the sl rated tires as well, expecting the extra bit of sluggishness but I do like that going up to LTs is only gonna bump me up ~10 pounds at each corner

that 1/2 inch of sidewall between the rim and the ground isn’t doing anything if you’re not aired down low wheeling on rocks

i had the 265 SL’s also. My opinion is that the ride significantly improved when going to the Toyo’s. I prefer the firmer ride of a more robust tire. My 255 AT3W’s are a softer feeling ride but still firm and are not even in the same league when it comes to wet and snow traction.

i also felt the shit automatic transmission actually shifted better with the taller tires.

Yeah, opposite opinion here. I much prefer the softer ride for comfort. Even with the Wildpeaks I would have preferred softer. But that’s more of a suspension thing rather than a tire thing.

I just ordered 4Runner TRD Pro wheels (PTR20-35110-F5) and S/T Maxx in 255/80-r17. I was planning to do a 2" lift soon as well, but I might have to delay it for a few weeks due to some scheduling issues. Would I have any rubbing issues if I just threw these new wheels and tires on? I'm on a stock 3rd gen TRD OR DCLB.

You *might* have some slight rub on a fender liner at some point when wheeling but overall the consensus is that 255 skinny 33's fit without issue.

Got my Ridge Grapplers in 255/80r17 and Method 704s installed yesterday. I'm on a stock suspension ('21 TRD OR 4x4). Had to remove the front mud flaps and trim the lining a bit along the inner edge. Still rubs a little! New suspension goes in later this week but some alignment magic would probably take care of it if I kept it stock.

Touché. Overall super stoked on this combo. I was expecting though for the overall height to be closer to 33" than where I'm at per Nitto specs. The 0 offset is a nice improvement over OEM wheel offset.

That's odd, they appear much closer to 32" than 33"... And you said you had some rubbing? I'm curious how much my 255/80r17s will rub with the 4Runner TRD wheels. I'll report back next week.

Yep they rubbed hard on the front mud flaps and got caught a bit on the liner at near full lock after removing

No tire meets manufacture specs once mounted and under the weight of the truck! Tires are measured from the manufacturer unmounted or on a rim that is typically in the middle of the suggested rim width with no load on them. Changing the offset to sit out further in the wheel well almost always leads to rubbing! Stock wheels are the secret here.

Hope you like the tires overall once you get some miles on them, don't imagine you see much snow in New Mexico?!

Most people seem to think wheels sticking out the wheel well means less rubbing. It's the opposite.
