Falken wild peak vs BFG AT K02. Which one and why?

Every wildpeak sale helps keep mine, and 1500 other US workers, working.

 

I bought 275/70/17 falken wildpeaks 2 weeks ago

No complaints

 

This isn't meant to defend the Wildpeak's but I've never actually heard or read anything good about K02's

 

I just got KO2's and I will say I'm not impressed at all. I've always had Ridge Grapplers but decided to change things up and am regretting it.

 

I’ve had 3 sets of ko2 on two trucks and now I run wild peak. The wild peaks are better, the ko2 does a terrible job at gripping rocks.

Some with Falkens have had tire balancing issues. Some with KO2's have been unhappy with their performance.

I'd recommend Toyo AT3 Open Country All Terrain.

 

Don't you need to know the max tire size that will fit with no rubbing before choosing a tire?

 

Same here. BFG's sucked in the rain. The Wildpeaks rode better on road. This was in my Tacoma. Now running Nitto Ridge Grapplers but on my GX in 33". I didn't go with Falkens this time because the Nittos were lighter. But can't imagine it really makes that much of a difference. I've offroaded all of them and all were capable, at least where I went.

 

It’s the driver, not the tire.
Pick whatever tire you want, learn to pick your lines, and learn what PSI makes sense for your TRUCK.
TRUCK being the operative word here. This isn’t a Porsche 911 nor a Unimog nor a Sherp.

I’ve NEVER had issues with K02s, and I run them pretty hard. As do many other people I know. I also know people who rent stock jeeps for weekend off roading, air down whatever junk street rubber is on them, and do more extreme shit than the overlanding brodozers with Patagonias or other MTs.

Driver > rubber. Driver > lift as well, but have fun trying to get that one across.

 

Really? You mean Michelin sells thousands of these tires and no one has anything good to say about them? Why are they #1 selling replacement A/T tire and have been for years? I get it that people want to bash the popular, but they are without question a tired and true product. Falkens have their place in the market, but they are not great tires. For the price, they are decent, but they gained popularity with marketing in the drifting world and had some smoking hot models, but their truck tires are average at best. They make a lot of their tires in Thailand and China. BFGs are made in the US in a state of the art plant.

I'll put it this way. If a customer has a ride complaint with Coopers, Goodyears, etc. You would never throw on a set of Falkens to hope to resolve the issue. If someone has an issue, you would go to Michelins to either fix it or prove that it isn't a tire problem.

The Falkens - definitely.

Grippy in the wet and in the snow. They are also QUIET!

Wrong. There isn’t a single Falken tire that is made in China. It’s a Japanese company. Most tires for the US market are coming out of the Buffalo, NY plant or Thailand. Some high end stuff comes from various plants in Japan.

 

I guess I'll rephrase my statement; I've never read or heard anything positive about K02's when they've been put through an off-road environment compared to other A/T's.

K02's are popular as hell, and a ton of people buy them. They're affordable, and they had a great reputation when they still made K0's.

But when I go on here, Ih8, and other forums, or talk to people in the industry, or even those I off road with or run into while off-roading, nothing positive is ever said about K02's. You've got owners of them bashing them now even in this very thread. My former co-worker still runs his old K0's because he says K02's don't compare for shit in his light off-roading (he has a long travel XJ).

To avoid all that, I went Cooper S/T Maxx. Awesome tire IMO.

 

Wildpeaks if you like a boring looking tire, KO2s are fine in the rain if you don’t drive like a moron.
KO2s will go anywhere as proven by Dan Grec in Africa or Andrew St Pierre in Australia.
logging roads with deep mud, ruts from full size trucks I’ve had no issues.

 

In defense of not doing a search: I have never found the search function to be very effective. No matter how specific I have been the info provided is very generic. It seems the search function just looks for all info that contains the words used in the search. Perhaps I don't use it correctly but I have given up on it long ago.

 

If go really have to ask, Michelin Defender LTX are definitely what will work best for you.
