    He absolutely needs a lift to offroad with the extra weight added to the vehicle

    You can measure your down travel by jacking your truck up by the frame, measuring your hub to fender distance, and subtracting 23.6 from it. Assuming you have stock length shocks, I suspect you have about 0.5” of down travel, but don’t trust me. Measure it.

    I find the TRD OR plenty capable off-roading with some mild crawling in stock form. Tires were the biggest downfall but once I upgraded my tires majority of my woes went away. Learn to pick proper lines and work the pedal properly and you should have no problems.

    if your going off road you need to deal with the rear plastic bumper they provide no protection. they crumble and allow further damage to the bed. I too am not a fan of lifting, but a fan of further protection like rock sliders to protect the rockers and door jams which are a very expensive fix if you crush them.

    You ever run a tacoma with a winch and bumper without a lift/ heavy springs?

    I have. Your tires are gone, ride sucks, and everything wears faster

    Maybe at the shock it's near zero? I didn't measure every time, but i played with lift heights and droop travel when installing my front shocks and 3" lift resulted in about 1.5" of droop at the hub, not at the shock. I also did this on a TRD sport, so I think I started with 1" more of droop from the start.

    I’ve never heard anything about the sport ride height or suspension travel being any different than the OR. I have heard that the Pro has a 1” higher ride height.

    Unfortunately I did not write down my stock measurements but I remember hub to fender being 21” when sitting on the ground and 24” when jacked up, so 3” of down travel. I measured my truck recently and it is 21.5” when on the ground and 25.5” when jacked up (4” down travel), but I have extended length king shocks which add about 1” of down travel. All these measurements are +/- .25”
