I got this message from the dealership after I requested a swap from the stock wheels that came with my 21’ OR to the TRD pros:

“So we just found out there is a new design on the TPMS sensors and we are not able to transfer them to the new wheels”

Can someone confirm / deny this?

No, the sensors should fit fine. Unless you had steel wheels, the aluminium wheel sensors fit the pro wheels as fate as I remember

Lmao lies, I'm an OR, just got TRD wheels and they transferred the sensors from my stockers. Worth noting, some shops will recommend against it/maybe even not do it because they "don't want to damage the sensors". Translation: "we want your money" or "we don't know what we're doing"

There is a new design for TRD wheels.. the difference is the new ones have more bites on the sides and a red ring around the TRD logo but they can just put it where there's no bite if that really was the issue. Either way, there's nothing you can do about it but go to a tire shop for the swap

I literally just swapped my TPMS sensors from my Off-road Wheels to ‘21 TRD Pro wheels with no issue

Only if their lips were moving.

Stop by the parts department and ask for the P/N for the sensors.

Betting today's Diet Coke that there are only 2 numbers. Steel wheels and alloy wheels.

I know the knee-jerk reaction is to think the dealer is lying to you. But step back a moment and take breath, don't rush to such a hasty and prejudiced opinion.

There's a chance they aren't lying to you...they could just be stupid.

    Oh look, another mod....
Question: How do you know of a car salesman is lying to you?
    Answer: His lips are moving!

It sounds like he wants to squeeze yet ONE more dollar out of your pocket before you drive your truck away. They know that once you drive off, you don't need them anymore. They're like really co-dependent girlfriends. Clingy, obsessive, needy. But yet...do their best to fuck you over and take your money!

It could be a simple case where they see a different part number and assume the old ones will no longer work.

    True.

Which is even more infuriating, getting wrong/bad information from a bunch of goobers on the interwebs should be expected. But the highly trained expert maintenance professionals should be able to look up the appropriate part for every model.

To be fair, dealerships tend to be under the guise of using the right part numbers in the intended spots. It's when you come here or go to a 3rd party mechanic that they start to embody the definition of "good enough" and throw alternative parts in that do the job just as well.

Worst case scenario ? ... you actually have to shell out a few dollars for one of these things and use it a few times a month.

Hey if you already paid for new ones the old ones should easily sell. Definitely get them back.

The documentation of the TRD Pro wheels DO specify a different sensor than the rest of the alloys.

Please post up all the P/Ns and what they are specified to fit. That way future readers of this thread will have a specific answer.

The problem isn't that as much as the annoying warning you have to clear every time you start the vehicle.
