Automatic Downshifting concerns/ engine braking

Hello Tacoma world,

First thread here. Done a some searching and seen some similar threads but I wanted to start a new one and highlight an issue I am experiencing with my 2010 4.0L automatic 4x4 DCLB. Just bought the truck with 53k miles.

Heres the deal: Truck seems to be upshifting smoothly through all gears. But when downshifting, something doesnt seem quite right. The truck seems to engine brake more so than any other automatic I have driven. It seems most noticeable when costing to a stop and downshifting from 3rd to 2nd at around 30mph. Truck revs from about 1k rpm up to about 1300 rpm (on flat ground). I know this isnt much but you can really feel the deceleration from it. It's not as smooth as I'd like but mostly I am concerned that my transmission may have a problem. I realize I may be paranoid here after dropping the cash on the new truck but Id like to hear from you. Is this normal? Is the truck programed to downshift this hard? And more generally, is it programed to "engine brake" all the time?

 

Your injectors turn off when you lift your foot off the gas pedal . Its a Toyota thing that a lot of new members haven't felt before . One of Toyotas ways to save fuel
