FWIW, I'm sitting on 17" wheels wrapped with 265/65-17.

No lift, no rub, no problem. Some weak tire performance on wet, snow and ice, but that is due to shitty tires.

    There is quite a few.

I’ve run Falkens, Goodyear, and Hankook. I currently have the Hankook AT RF11 in 255/75/17 SL and at 40lbs they have been great out in the desert or in the snow. Haven’t punctured one yet :fingerscrossed:

Oh Hell NO! So you're saying I can only go 1" of lift?? This can't be right?! :annoyed:

As someone who has had the 3rd gen with 35" tire and 33" tires. Here's my 2 pennies!

The 33" tires make the truck feel like it is in desperate need for gears! The truck is constantly searching and down shifting at the wrong times.

However!! With the 35" tires the truck actually drove really well! My MPG was actually better. (This is probably due to the fact that it made the close ratio of the 6 speed more useable) I never got to 6 gear but the truck didn't seem to need it.

Like stated before 35" tires will more than likely rub, due to the fact that the tire just doesn't fit into the wheel well. (Major cutting!) Unless you get a DB lift. But than you still need to do the CMC for full flex clearance.

If you don't want a DB lift? Then don't go beyond 3" lift on your stock set up. (Your CV Boots will thank you!)

Myself personally I'm opting for just a 2" lift with 33" on my new Tacoma. I'm also running SPC UCA so I can bias the tire forward and clear the Cab Mount at full flex without doing the CMC. It requires a bit of minor trimming on the front bumper area and moving the fender liner forward. (Or could just do the Viper cut)

This is with 1.5” of lift in the front and about 2.25” in the rear. Only pics I have right now.

Up here in Canada, it's a bit more challenging to find lighter load tires in the size I wanted. I don't search out trails with rocks, but where I wheel there are some sharp jagged rocky hillclimbs that are part of the trail systems and are hard to avoid. When I got my E rated tires, I was of the same mind as you... I thought it was too much weight. Now after 4 wheeling trips, 3 of which involved rocks, I don't regret getting the heavier tires!

It does really hurt my mpg though.

I should have asked the tire shop about the open country AT III tires. Maybe they had them in something that was lighter. I knew they had them, but I just assumed they would be E rated, like the R16 duratracs and Ko2's I was also considering. Thanks for mentioning this!

I should have been more specific.

    My KM3s were 285/75

Totally makes sense. I have a set of E loads for heavy trails, too. Don't want a hole in the sidewall.

D Load is typically 8 ply

SL can be 2 to 4 ply (I believe)

Alot of guys like C loads because it's a good compromise with 6 ply.

What are the specs of the wheels you're running? Cheers from YYC!

A good rule of thumb for a 2nd or 3rd gen is to run a -12 offset. It will help clear your strut and UCA for larger tires.

SCS has a variety of Wheels that can accommodate this and so does Tandem Offroad.

265 70r 17 bfg ko2. 3in eibach lift w/ icon AAL. Wouldnt go bigger than 275 as you be getting into cutting. 3in lift is pretty much the max you can go w/o getting into diff drops etc. My wheels are a -7 offset as well. Hope this helps.
