I am planning another trip out west for roughly around Thanksgiving. Being from the east coast I am not sure what to expect for weather and driving conditions. Also is there a good place to stay? What trails are a must?

no local knowledge but trailsoffroad is a good resource for scouting in advance. if camping, likely below freezing at night late Nov. perhaps 50s daytime, a bitmore precip that time of year. sure you'll gt lots of feedback... good luckwith your trip!

I can tell you first hand that is gets cold, like cold cold, at night in Nov. did a mountain biking trip out there last year, slept in the back of my truck. Had a 30 degree sleeping bag and was still on the chilly side. But I also had no insulation in my truck bed, so it was like sleeping in a tent pretty much.
Super great during the day, but in the desert all the heat just disappears once the sun goes down that time of year.

Thanks. I was out west in August and it was like 105 in Moab. I was like. "I am Good." Then stayed in Colorado.

There is always a police presence on the main highway through town. Watch your speed!!!

It will get super cold at night, and pretty warm in the day. Bring heavy sleeping bags and plenty of clothes to layer on.

For an easy trail, I liked Gemini Bridges. My group did Fins 'n Things as our harder trail. Everybody came from far away so we didnt do anything harder for fear of breaking something.

There arent any campgrounds with tent sites available to my knowledge. We camped off BLM Rte 215 just north of town. Its primitive so again, be prepared. @Kwikvette and @eon_blue may have more to share about our trip

I've been going to Moab every year for the past ~16 years. I had everything from a stock wrangler to a solid axle Toyota pickup on 35s (see profile picture from Top Of The World)

I always suggest people purchase the Charles Wells Moab book. Very detailed, well graded, and easy to understand what you may be getting into.

That said, if you have any 4wheeling experience I highly suggest Fins-n-things and Hells revenge. some obstacle spotting will be needed, but they are the most iconic trails Moab has to offer. There are lots of really interesting trails for all experience levels. Gemini bridges on the low end, and area BFE on the extreme high end. The number of trails, and time spent on any specific trail is unreal. Be careful with time management if you decide to run Poison spider/gold bar rim. I've been on that trail complex for 12-14 hours before.

Lots of hotels and AirBNB/VRBO places to stay. We usually rent a Condo with a group of friends when we go.

BLM camp sites all along 128 that runs from Cisco down to Moab with vault toilets around $15 fee.
Yes in town watch your speed and they look your truck over as it passes for illegal mods as they have to with all the modified ones out there.
Lots of hotels with washing machines so you can get cleaned up. Rain forced us in one night into the Super 8 all OK nice people.
That Moab book helps planning. There time estimates look long but are close to real.

If you are doing Fins and Things and take the harder route you need full steel skids or you will bash things underneath. My front and center plates were hit alot and coming off the rear hitch takes alot of abuse - if you have the plug in 7 pin in stock location it will get destroyed (mine in bumper) so pull the 2 bolts and secure up out of the way when there. Coming off steel ledges my front guard dug in a few times and the rear bumper outer edges can flex up and knock the tail light lenses off (they glue back on) so watch your speeds. Mostly modified UTVs/buggies running thru the area and they can move faster than a Tacoma as they are trailered in so breakage is not as big a concern for them!
Going into Canyonlands Shafer Trail is mainly a rough jarring dirt road but fun climbing up the last section into the park. The other side down to the Green river is Mineral Springs a mainly smooth higher speed road till the drop down the canyon wall. Lots enjoy the 98 mile White Rim but 1-2 days of jarring and alot looks the same to me so driver is fine but passengers will not be happy - my opinion. You need permits in Canyonlands to drive or camp. All in park campgrounds are reserved way ahead as well as any lodges so look online before you go. Lots of hikes in the parks so get out and see them. If you need a break from wheeling run down south 100 miles towards Natural Bridges and 2 great short hikes to Anasazi ruins at Butler Wash and Mule Canyon plus the bridges canyon bottom is fun but longer.
    Enjoy.

Remove jump seats. Add dog platform. Add ARE DCU topper with camper mods.
BLM campgrounds along river/UT rt 128 fill up on "edge season" weekends. Late Sept 2019 Dewey Bridge was full, I was shocked because I'd always just driven right in.

We took the RimRocker trail from Moab back to Montrose, just be sure to check the weather before you go. Lots of fun, nothing too difficult. There are lots of places to camp and a town about midway (Naturita) to fill up. Enjoy!

Plenty of BLM land to camp in for free, however a spot along the River is well worth the minor cost

    Good. I am researching camping
on BLM land in AZ, UT and ID. Millions of BLM acres of land.
