*admins- please move if there is a more appropriate forum. I did a brief search and couldn't find one.

After a very wet high alpine buck hunt (in WA) over the weekend, I realized I have a need for a 270 deg. awning. My 79" CVT is great but obviously only shelters one side of the truck. I have a fridge slide and propane tank mounted in my bed so I do my cooking on a fold down table attached to the back of my swing out bumper. I started researching 270 awnings and was surprised at the number of options and range of prices. I figured I'd start a thread to document my findings. I also REALLY want opinions from people that have first hand experience with one or more of them (or others that I missed). M

    Universals:
-My ideal (for now) is to not have one that requires legs to be deployed so legs optional or no legs are both fine.
-The option to add zip on walls in the future is a nice to have, not a deal breaker.
-All of the below are made in passenger and driver side models.
-I may add other attributes for comparison later.

I cant speak for every one on this list but the eezi-Awn's are extremely well made. A good balance of being well made and strong without being extremely heavy.

Edit: To add the Rhino Racks are a good awning for the price, but I would shell out a little more and purchase one that is a bit burlier for WA weather.

This is a nice list. Did you choose one yet? I’m keeping my eye on awnings as a possible future upgrade for my GFC.

thanks! no, I have not. I can't spend the money until some time into 2022 anyway. I'll probably end up saving for the Ezee-Awn. I've seen one in person and they are ridiculously well made, overbuilt with super thick aluminum and nice welds.

Which one are you leaning towards? Bat or Manta? I just checked the website videos and it looks like the Bat gives more rear coverage while the Manta gives more side coverage

That's good intel. Thanks. More rear coverage is preferable since my fridge slides out from the tail, I cook on a fold down table on my bumper swing out, food prep on the tailgate, etc.

You may want to check for yourself though. That's just my impression from the product videos and looking at the dimension diagrams.

Are you running a cap or some type of bed rack type system? I'm going to wind up with a cap and am curious if/how a 270 awning interferes with opening the rear window

haha no. I can't spend that kind of money on an awning for a while, so I stopped researching because that just makes me want to buy one now. I do need to add one to the mix, some company that CVT is selling called "Bush Company" makes a 270 with no supports.

Are you running a Shell/Hardtop or some type of Bed Rack system? Just curious as I'm leaning heavily towards a shell...

I have a canopy (aka shell). It's actually stainless steel- RLD. I have the Thule heavy duty bars bolted to the canopy, to which I have ARB awning brackets mounted. I would be pretty skeptical, worried if it was a fiberglass or plastic canopy, I would image you would get a lot of flex/ bounce that would lead to cracks. I had a bed rack with a softtopper under it as set up for a while. Do yourself a favor and go right for the shell. The softopper plus a nice bed rack is about the same cost anyway and is so much easier to use. Just a bed rack (without softtopper) to me makes no sense with an awning because all of your gear in the bed is getting wet anyway.

I'm leaning heavily towards a metal shell; but more specifically aluminum. At this point a Tradesman is at the top of the list because it seems like I have a lot more options with respect to factory customization options. I've looked at both RLD and RSI canopies but in my research each has come up short in one way or another. Regardless of the brand (Tradesman, RLD and RSI) it's an expensive decision. I have trouble dropping that much $ without doing a lot of research. I honestly wish I could go to one spot and see all of them side by side at one time. I might try to hit the next Overland Expo West in May. If I can wait that long...

This thread is more geared towards awnings, but I can tell you I have an RLD and love it. The RSI profile is a little too small and awkward looking because it doesn't match up with the rear quarter panels of the truck. Check the pinned thread on these. Also the glass on the side on the RSI is too much for me. I want to prevent people from seeing in as much as possible.

I ended up getting the OVS. It's pretty incredible esp. for the price. Super beefy mounts and frame. I'm curious if anyone has figured out how to keep water out of the cover/ bag? I had the same problem with my CVT awning. For the time being, after driving in the rain, I open the bag and pull out the tent a bit so it can dry. There must be a better way.

You check out Alu cab ? I just pulled the trigger on that after a lot of research. But won’t clog this up with my opinions if you already ruled it out.
