Recently i have change my passenger front wheel bearing, and passenger front tie rod. Upon changing the wheel bearing i had broken the wheel speed sensor and the light came on for the ABS. I read that the abs system might act up a little or just not work in the rain so i drove it anyway after install because i had to run some errands around town and it was dry out so i had no worries for the ABS not working.

I was driving the truck around and I noticed a decent wobble in my steering and even my back passengers could feel it. I pulled over and checked the truck to make sure the lugs were tight because it was wobbling pretty bad, and when i checked the passenger side i could smell the brakes. If i drove under 50mph then i had no problems at all so i just did that. My thoughts were maybe because the speed sensor was broken the abs system was messing with the brake and causing it to drag and what not. If i kept the truck under 50mph it drove like normal.

i then dropped the truck off to get an alignment and the guy did an old school alignment with tow plates and tire chalk, the truck drives straight. I was still driving the truck locally and to work but kept it under 50 and had no problems. I finally replaced the wheel speed sensor and the light went off so I started driving the truck normally again and im still having the wobble issue but i no longer smell the brakes over heating.

    Here are the current symptoms….

At 50mph-60mph is the worst. The steering wheel wobbles back and forth and it can be felt within the truck not just the wheel. After 60mph the problem is either not noticeable or just not as bad. When i hit the brakes at highway speeds i will get a rapid pulsing feeling in the peddle and wheels but not if im going less than 50mph.

i no longer smell the brakes over heating at all but I lifted the front end and i shook it down to check the bearings and ball joints and i have no play at all. But when i try to turn the passenger wheel it has alot of resistance and the driver side has no resistance.

At this point im not sure what caused it 100% but im thinking the caliper and rotor on the passenger side is shot and that’s causing this. I’ve never heard of brakes pulsing only at highway speeds and also causing bad wobble in the steering system.

    thoughts???

Pull the wheel off and see if the pads are dragging on the rotor.
If not, remove the caliper and spin the hub/bearing.

Check the slide pins on the pads. Pull them out clean them GOOD.
While you are at it, check the pad and caliper mating surfaces for rust.

My brother had the same problem in his taco. We replaced the front rotors and pads and it fixed it. You probably have warped rotors. Make sure you replace both sides.
